I'm looking for a first "hoverboard" for my son. Can anyone recommend a good product and / or a reputable vendor? Ideally 8 - 10" wheels and a decent brand. Speakers, flashing lights, etc not required.

I first looked at hoverboards.co.nz, but I was put off because of the inconsistent information nearing on gibberish on parts of the website. They say they're in Auckland but "Orders sent via standard mail usually take 1 or 2 weeks longer than those sent by Express Shipping because they travel through other countries before reaching their destination country". Very odd.

I asked chatgpt about that website, hoverboardnz.co.nz and kiwihoverboard.co.nz and it pointed out a few things that made them seem less reputable - reviews saying people had problems with warranties mostly. The only one that has trust pilot reviews is hoverboardnz.co.nz and many of those reviews are scathing.

The only thing I know about those "hoverboards" is that they are often a cause of house fires. Buyer beware.

Interesting, thanks. They're all meant to be certified to some standard, but maybe we'll charge it outside just in case.

It won't matter if we can't find a reputable vendor who sells a decent product!

We went through this about 5 or 6 years ago.  Ended up getting Segway Drift eSkates.  Segway was a known manufacturer and they were sold from reputable bike shops.  They are a pair of separate 'skates' rather than 1 board, but the kids loved them once they got the hang of it.  They're still working fine now, although the kids don't use them as much these days.  Oh and they never caught fire at any stage.  I'm not sure they're available anymore though.
