Early January I hope to strike a deal (paying cash) with the sales consultant.

I am specifically after the 2026 X-LINE PETROL HYBRID 2WD. It has a RRP of $59,990 + $1495 ORC.

I know the Sportage is one of Kia's most popular vehicle's so maybe they won't budge much on price if the demand is high?

I will be pretty disappointed if I can't drive it away for under $60,000. I would like to negotiate a deal (not necessarily free but at least discounted) that has the scheduled servicing sorted for at least the next 3 years as well.

I'd prefer it if Kia had non-negotiable prices listed like Toyota but it is what it is.

Any advice or strategy welcomed. Cheers! :)

I had a similar experience with Suzuki - dealers tend to play some tough psychological games.

I’d keep an eye on Trade Me for that model, as dealers often include extra incentives, which you can then use to negotiate a better deal with a local dealer.

I am of the understanding the X-LINE trim level has only recently arrived in the country.

The sales consultant seemed to not mind my request to discuss the next stage (after I returned from the test drive) over e-mail. I am glad about this as not only will things be in writing but I will avoid the pressure that comes with negotiating in person.

I've found they're less likely to sharpen their pencil when you're paying cash. They make money when you finance through them so likely to wiggle a bit more. I won't finance through a dealer so they always miss that bonus income. Be prepared to walk away (or at least give the appearance you will) if they don't come to the party. Chances are a short time later they'll contact you with the "I just spoke with the manager, and they said we can...."

I went to a dealership.
Asked for discount, nope they will not budged.
Gave me the song and dance about we MAYBE can give you discount $500
So I went to another dealership and got $9000 discount, plus free servicing for 1 year
Try that...

Absolutely this is my top strategy.

I will genuinely walk away if they give me nothing to work with (as much as I want the car). Who doesn't like a good deal when the opportunity is there?

End of the month is better than the start (sales timing for bonuses), and once you have a number you are happy with then ask for the extras (for no extra $).

It's a US video with a bit of waffle but no doubt some of the principles are transferable.

I have heard this mentioned before & strategically they'd be no harm me assuming this to be the case with Kia.

I could put some feelers out early Jan then move towards finalizing a deal in week 4. 👍

We have a 2019 Sportage EX - Love it.

On purchase, we haggled for: mats, slim line weather shields and rear clear bumper protector. Wish we had at the time had also haggled for a tow-bar. PS: Kia branded and certified tow-bars are made in Auckland.

A little hassle with the Electronic Park Brake switch and then the Auto-Hold facility which, in the end, the whole controller had to be replaced with the part in from Korea. All this was under warranty and Tauranga Motor Company was fantastic with continual updates and loaner cars.

Otherwise, this has been a really hassle-free vehicle.

PS: our next vehicle will be an EV or hybrid, whether that will be a Kia will depend upon what's out there at the time.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

If you go to a dealer saying you are looking at various brands and models, one is more likely to offer you some deal to get a sale.

That might work better at some of the other dealers if you say you're looking at Kia.

Tell them you’re still undecided between the Hyundai Tuscon & the Sportage, they’re mechanically identical so the biggest difference the dealer should push is the price
