BlueShift: I see the usual suspects are doing Click Madness again. Have you spotted anything that you'd consider a better-than-average deal? Or is it just lots of leftover stock priced at 10% off?

Some of the clickmadness items I checked were on sale last week for the same price.

I think the clickmadness novelty was its initial strength and now it is just blah!

the problem with it is there are no killer deals

So its 6 weeks out from xmas and they just give us the same old stuff that was on sale last week.

They need to do good things like a lumia 520 (old stock) for $45, now that would be a good deal for xmas presents for a kid etc. You only need 3 or 4 good deals to get people worked up, this makes people buy other stuff you have as well.
But no they give $200 off a $1150 phone which would only really apply to people already looking at buying it.

we have so many 1 day sale sites that we are use to the prices and when they do these once every 6 month things we don't really care as we know it will turn up on another site in a week or so at a same/better price.

Isn't there usually another online saley thing about this time of the year as well? The non-Warehousey one?

I'm looking for a good deal on a PS4 for an xmas pressie. A new one, so not the one being sold in the other thread.

A little off topic, but I have noticed very few deals this year and prices seem to be up, when in previous years, retailers have had constant sales. Maybe the retailers are doing a lot better now.

The retailers we work with seem to be feeling more positive and expansion plans are going ahead. Also currency isn't as good as it was so prices will be rising shortly. It's been suggested now is a good time to buy.

Good points. The other thing is that Aucklander will be feeling richer with the new QV house price rises, which I don't think is any coincidence that they were released just before xmas shopping time.

That's the best price I've found from a retailer so far too. There's been some $500ish new ones on Trademe, some even with a game and a warranty. I'm hoping someone will have a decent sale sometime in the next few weeks.

ETA: If I do buy from Mighty Ape, I'll try to remember to click thru the affiliate link at the top of the page there. Doing my bit to keep GZ ticking...

I'd suggest that for most people it would have an opposite effect. Higher house values only affect you in the positive once you sell, until then you have higher property taxes, higher insurances and potentially a bunch of other value affected expenses, making most worse off.

Also worth noting that people usually buy in the same market as they are selling, so they got more for their house and paid more for the one they subsequently bought.

True, but for many it will give them the feeling that they are better off compared to the rest of the country, and if they ever moved to a cheaper area then they could sell up and make a huge tax free profit. Rates also for most shouldn't increase by that much, and for many they may drop, as it is proportional. eg, if everyones house price went up the same percentage, then people would still be paying that same rates. But if some peoples went up at a higher percentage than others, they would pay more than others, and many peoples whose percentage rise was less, their rates should go down. But those people do benefit in the increased value. But rating on CV is a bad idea, as it is being used as a wealth tax, rather than what it should be, a service charge.I don't think insurance will be affected by the rise in CVs, as usually the rebuilt insurance cost will be a lot higher anyway, and in some cases can be over double the RV. So the RV is often the minimum value a house is worth. So overall, I think if I was lucky enough to be a home owner in Auckland, and it hadn't gone up by a lot more than other properties, I would be feeling pretty happy.

It is actually quite an impressive range of retailers, I'm interested to see how it goes after not being in the country last year when it happened. Let's hope it's much better than Click Madness.
