I see they are spinning the BS about seperate cartridges being better in the story. Ink companies must love that scam.

Separate ink carts are better . A tri-color holds less ink and is useless if only 1 color runs out.

The biggest scam is inkjets cleaning themsleves evey time you turn it on. Thats just your ink being squirted through the printhead. Thats where a lot of my printers ink goes, into the cleaning process .

Its no real secret just how cheap these ink carts are to make. The company I used to work for were importing new,boxed compatable inkjet carts for 50c each .

Because you change on colour and it does a prime on all of them as the separate tanks all feed a single head so changing one cart primes them all and loses 10-20% of the ink in it doing that. Only makes sense on large volume cartridges. Separate low volume ones like the small cheap canons don't have enough in a cart to survive the multiple swaps without the problem of swapping one out then finding another needs to be changed and then wasting more ink out of the one you just swapped and purged.

I'm happy with my Brother MFC-9140CDN. It'd be nice if it did double sided scanning, but otherwise scanning, printing, and copying works well. The paper comes out slightly more curled than I'd like, but it's not too bad, and there's a function that's meant to minimise it a little.

Yes - hence this thread to get a cheap laser printer. No such issue with toner.

I've brought this printer to supplement my canon inkjet - the HL-3170CDW version due to the better print speed, more memory and the fact that it is a "proper printer" (PCL6, BR-Script3) rather than a gdi printer...
Wireless support is just a bonus.

I've been looking at the 3170 for some timie and was just about to jump on this deal when the wife said no go if there's no scanner. Sigh....

Do you think she would go for 2 printers?

Had a email from pb tech with the canon pixma mx729. The prices are somewhat hidden, with them saying it will be $?7 + gst, however, they then state the gst inclusive price of $?9. Given that we know the gst rate is 15%, we have enough information to work out the hidden price (same holds true for a lot of their deals).
As there is a $50 cashback on this, you could get both printers somewhat cheaply.

Note - printer is in store pick up only.

Actually we've got an Epson inkjet just uses as a scanner (since the damn heads keep blocking) and a brother mono laser for printing. I thought it would be good to upgrade to a colour laser.

And I'm not in Auckland so can't pickup from PB Tech unfortunately.
