I assume that this only applies to post content, as opposed to people's signature that point to their own websites and so on. (There are a few people who have links to services they provide in their sigs, and I personally think that should be allowed.)

richms: How did you pay? This is what chargebacks are great for.

I checked with my bank. They were very helpful and are prepared to accept a claim for the amount I am disputing. I calculated it by taking the discounted price (what I was actually charged) of the faulty item, adding half the courier charge plus GST over that amount and came to a grand total of $11.24. I'm not worried about the money but I will pursue this as a matter of principle. Companies go broke all the time and that is part of doing business, but the way this guy just vanished without a word is not how things are done. Thanks for the tip.

I just heard from Eric of Gadgetkiwi. Very apologetic and offering to refund the money for the cable. Don't know what will happen next. I wrote him back and explained that I had already started the chargeback process but would try to cancel it if he did indeed make a refund. If anyone else needs to get in touch with him PM me and I will provide his email address.

Almost no chance they will actually charge it back, the bank will just credit your account, but if you get a refund, you are supposed to notify them so they can get the money back from you.

It’s a little late in the day but I believe in giving credit where it is due.

The guy from GadgetKiwi did get in touch with me eventually and said he would give me a refund for the faulty cable. After that I forgot about it but today I realised that he did in fact keep his word. He didn’t have to.

I am now of the opinion that he is probably a decent bloke who maybe had some bad luck and got in over his head. His big mistake was going silent and not letting people know what was going on but I don’t think he is dishonest and I just wanted to set the record straight.
