Should mention that this printer has a low cost per page too -- so although the ink costs a crap load up front you still get a really good deal here in my opinion as the ink will last a long long time.

Very difficult to calculate though, and you do wonder how accurate the figures are. Also it probably doesn't allows for the printer doing it's cleaning, and wasting huge amounts of ink. I would take any comparisons and cost per page with a grain of salt, as you really have to look at the fine print. Bigger more expensive printers have a lower cost per page, becuase they use bigger consumables. I have two laser printers, 1 is a big commercial one, and one is a cheap small HP one. The cost per page on the big one is just a fraction of the cost on the cheap one, as you get a far larger amount of toner in the big printer which lasts for ages. While the cheap laser I had to keep changing toners.

mattwnz: Does anyone have one of those large capacity inkjets. I think it is Epson who make them, they have huge tanks beside them. I think they are about $500 which isn't bad considering that they say they come with ink that should last a few years.
Your description reminds me of a continuous ink system

It is a very similar idea, but one of the printer companies now make them, so it is all supported. Looks like it maybe this one http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2778082/End-ink-cartridge-Epson-unveils-printer-refillable-TANK-print-6-500-pages-needs-refilling.html .

HN sells this, $449 currently.

Anyone got one. They look on the surface to be good value if you do a lot of colour printing.
