it's good wifi coverage, just be aware don't update to the latest firmware, the arlo feature may cause the problem for 2.4Ghz.

The price is not cheapest, from my memory it's about somewhere around $240.

It hasn't been that price since the NZ dollar tanked. $300 is the usual price now.

I got one about a month ago to replace an old TPLink WR1043ND running Gargoyle when I upgraded to UFB. The first attempt was a WRT1900AC, which was an absolute disaster.

The R7000 is running AdvancedTomato v132 and has been basically rock solid for the last month. Constant 45-50MB/s transfer speeds to my 2x2 AC laptop.

It's also compatible with a fork of AsusWRT-Merlin called XVortex which is apparently also very stable and high-performing. I like Tomato so much I haven't felt the need to try it.

I am running this router with Tomato, on Spark Fibre 100/20. Vlan tagging for the WAN (VLAN 10). Great piece of kit with excellent WiFi coverage. I ran an iPerf from my Android (Nexus 5) to a desktop lst night for an average transfer rate of 200Mb/s. The phone was showing a connection speed of 433Mb/s (admittedly only about 2 metres from router) so iPerf looks about right.

I have been having problems with the router lately - all clients wired/wireless lose connectivity to the internet, and I can't browse or Telnet into the router (can ping it ok though). Sometimes takes several reboots/resets of the router to get service back. I think an upgrade of the tomato FW is in order.

Only went to Tomato as the stock FW doesn't have very good QOS features - I needed to manage QOS closely while on ADSL (via a Draytek Vigor 120) to rein in two teenagers and try to give everyone in the house fair access. Even with the fibre now I still need to manage access and the Tomato does a good job. Had been running Kong's DD-WRT for ages but have found Tomato to be more 'user-friendly'.

Is this device is getting a bit 'dated' by now though? Perhaps they're clearing stock as newer versions are available?

I did feel a bit concerned about buying a device that was released several years ago for what is more or less the original full retail price. However there still isn't really a better consumer router on the market for any less money. The "new" version (the R7500v2) is meant to be very good, but isn't available in Australia or New Zealand and apparently Netgear has no plans to bring it here. I have no need for one of those $500 6-antenna behemoths - they look hideous and they bring basically no improvement in real-world speeds, because that is limited by the hardware in normal client equipment (phones, laptops). Range is limited by physics (as well as the transmit power on the client) and won't be significantly better either. Basically if an R7000/RT-AC68U aren't sufficient, the logical next step is a multi-AP setup using Ubiquiti or similar equipment.

Yep i thought exactly the same thing. If this thing were an iphone it'd be obsolete by now.

Funny how it still remains one of the best consumer wifi routers on the market -- Even the R7000 is still overkill, not many clients have that many antennas.
