Yeah, after being exposed myself to the nightmare that is online communities, and coming out of it mostly sane, I do try and steer my younger family members into more controlled environments, and also loom over them as the all seeing eye to try and keep them outta mischief. People online are still people, it's just that people ain't no good.

Anything I say is the ramblings of an ill informed, opinionated so-and-so, and not representative of any of my past, present or future employers, and is also probably best disregarded.

Does Civilization have built in online communities?

All comments are my own opinion, and not that of my employer unless explicitly stated.

Sam91:

Davy: No, I've played this game for many years now and can assure you that Civilisation is very educational,

it teaches world history and geopolitics, along with some actual historical figures, and the importance or competing for resources to nations. There is absolutely no Nazism or racism or any other of that sort of nonsense in the game.

I think Tim is saying that online gaming communities are no place for a 13 year old, rather than the game itself being inappropriate for a 13 year old. I tend to agree with Tim, the game is one thing, but it's the online interaction that you need to worry about as a parent.

I'm not a parent, but my generation has just gone through it.

Steam summer sale memes I stumbled upon the other day.

Civilization as a game yes, I agree there. More educational than age of empires for example.
Sam interpreted what i was intending very well, The online interactions are very toxic across the board.
I noticed the toxicity of the environment was worse the lower the age demographic of the game. Call of Duty, Minecraft, Dayz and a few other mainstream ones that attract the kids.

This is the best one this year

There are online forums and communities yes, But i do not believe they can interact in game together like call of duty or similar.
Its the voice chat thats the issue 90% of the time. What ever you do dont get your kid a mic.
