Don't buy Dark Souls 2 - just get the Monthly Humble Bundle - Dark Souls 2 is the early title, and you'll get other games too at the beginning of next month.

My 13 year old got Civ5 with $ he had saved specifically for the sale.

He's absolutely hooked. I remember losing a lot of time in my younger years to earlier versions of that game. It's educational right? Or at least more educational than COD

If the community teaching you child Nazi ideology, making racist remarks against people and extreme sexism then yeah I suppose it educates them that.
As someone whos been on the internet since i was 12 and gaming a lot i can tell you one thing, That i saw a LOT of the above in the communities i ran and was part of. Didnt matter when or where there was someone.

I'm quite against kids on social media and online multi player dialogue.

Edit, This is sorta offtopic and would be good to discuss in more detail at some point.

No, I've played this game for many years now and can assure you that Civilisation is very educational,

it teaches world history and geopolitics, along with some actual historical figures, and the importance or competing for resources to nations. There is absolutely no Nazism or racism or any other of that sort of nonsense in the game.

  • Grand Theft Auto Collection ($20.99)
  • DiRT Rally (Lowest recorded price - $22.19)

Under $20:

  • Sid Meier's Civilization V: Complete ($17.32)
  • L.A. Noire Complete Edition (Lowest recorded price - $11.99)
  • Tabletop Simulator (Lowest recorded price - $14.99)

Under $10:

+1 for Beamng Drive. More soft physics sandpit than game. Stacks of mods available in the community as well (I've got about 170 odd installed)

Picked up for my Steam account Cities Skyline for $10.

A little sore about that, as I created the wife her own steam account and gave her the game exactly a week ago and paid full price $41..

I think Tim is saying that online gaming communities are no place for a 13 year old, rather than the game itself being inappropriate for a 13 year old. I tend to agree with Tim, the game is one thing, but it's the online interaction that you need to worry about as a parent.

I'm not a parent, but my generation has just gone through it.

Steam summer sale memes I stumbled upon the other day.
