I just purchased an echo from JB hifi, no charge for shipping. So cheaper than Noel leemings.

I set my echo spot to use computer as the wake word since otherwise the other echo in the room would hear me and answer, and it false triggers all the time, even from music that is playing itself. Anyone heard any rumours about being able to train wake words or use custom ones?

Do these work properly in NZ now? I have a dot I purchased a year ago, and when I ask the weather, it thinks I am in Seattle. So does Amazon now allow them to be used in NZ properly? Are the NZ versions the same as the US versions?

Do they work in NZ :Yes.

Are the NZ versions different from the US version : Why would they manufacture a different unit for NZ?

Just google for 'alexa apk download'. Download the apk file and then copy to the device and finally install it.

Or wait until next week.

Mine always worked in NZ, but it thought I was in the US if I asked what the weather was, as I recall I had to set my account to the US to get it to work. So can we now set our account to NZ, and it will know our location. Eg if I ask it 'what is the weather today', will it provide the weather for the NZ city or town we are in?

I am guessing the NZ unit does include a NZ power plug though, so it wouldn't be exactly the same as they they sell in the US, which only include the US plug.

Power supply, wifi compliance is different as FCC make them lock out firmware chanagbility to get onto the other channels, my US echo dots will not connect to DFS channels here, hopefully NZ sourced ones will so I can move one of my APs onto an unused channel.
