Ha ha cheap because it has been demoed to the point of being faulty. I guess thats why they weren't running it in store. There was certainly no notice that the screen had burned. But, I guess they'd tell people before buying.

Not sure about normal use, but static images yes 100%. I think (not sure) it is more prone to screen burn than plasma.

I'd bet they have anti burn settings on by default on the TV. Like plasma's that move the images around a few pixels so static images are less likely to burn in.

I find it hard to believe a store would have a static image on the screen? It's usually just on for ~8 hours a day playing demo video content.

I'm interested to see how well OLEDs hold up. Plasma's will last 10 years easy if not abused.

Dingbatt: Unless they have been displaying wide format movies with pillar boxing stripes top and bottom. When I asked to see a full screen image on one of the sets in the Wellington Harvey Norman that had been playing WS movies for months, the burn in was so obvious that the set would have been unsaleable.

But in this case it's not image retention right? It's that the black bars are basically new and bright and the rest of the pixels have been worn. Would you not likely see the same effect after a few years of watching movies at home?

I popped in a Smiths City store in Wellington today and realised they are running some sweet deals on the floor. The one caught my eyes was a LG OLED 55B6T for $1,9999; floor model with 3,999 hours on the clock, and it's already sold. 

The store manager was helpful and after looking into their system, she found another one in Lower Hutt for the same price with 3,099 hours on it. Still available as of typing. I guess other might find the same deal at other Smiths City store nearby as well. Worth a shot if you happen to be in the market for one.

PS. I got a 65B6T for less than $3k with 1+4 years' warranty. Not bad.

I'd probably offer somewhere around $1000 for a B6T with that many hours. That's a lot of hours!

55B7's were only $2999 at Xmas and 65C7's are only $4999 now so we've really seen a huge price drop in recent months. It is a shame LG haven't launched the 65B7 in this part of the world.

No - it's the same panel but lacks a few extra features so it would be priced cheaper than the C7.

the 7 indicates the year (so 6 is a 2016 model) and you've then got B,C,E and W range models

LG only launched the 55B7 model here in December for the Boxing Day sales.

The real one to watch out for here is the 7 series, which all have the exact same panel (c7, b7, all the way up to top end models).  Earlier this year there was a deal on the 55B7 for 2999, which was an incredible deal and I'm sad to have missed it.

The 8 series will actually not use the same panel, so the cheaper B8 models potentially will be a worse deal than the C8.

I am hoping the B7 comes back for a limited time so I can snap one up :)

Actually LG have launched the 65B7 in New Zealand - but Noel Leeming want $6299 for it when the 65C7 is only going for $4899 at present. Yeah nah..

I really struggled to get info out of LG at CES about their new panels and how they would differ. I think we're simply going to have to wait until the 2018 models hit the market to see reviews of them.
