You're paying for it in the long run with expensive broadband on a CGNAT along with expensive power all tied together on a 24 month contract.

not all their plans are CGNAT.

I'm not sure what it is but their modems just seem to be turds. it makes for a poor user experience on otherwise a pretty decent connection honestly..

there are firmware changes etc that are meant to help, but as far as support teams have given the connection that i unfortunately get to touch... no real value comes out of it.

When combined with power and gas discounts, good value for money in our area, and that's without counting a free $700 appliance.

I asked for the top of the line washing machine which is $1700 retail

Not free but cheap. Did a quick comparison between the lowest supplier at my address on a low usage plan which it would be to Trustpower and the monthly difference is $15. On medium use it's $30. So worst case scenario is I spend $720 more over two years but the appliance is worth $1700. And I doubt I'll be on the higher plan so it works out better at Trustpower.

But YMMV

Been with Trustpower for nearly 2 years now. Internet is fine, fibre connection says higher ping within NZ but exactly the same as Spark was to Sydney gaming servers.

The Netgear routers they supply are flakey.

I am back on my old Spark supplied router with a Ubiquiti Wifi Point.

Stable internet and good wifi speed.

100 down unlimited fibre for $79+ GST

I signed up to this deal early last year. Yes TP were more expensive than my previous providers at that time but I knew that when I signed up - I pay about $8-13 a month more through them than I did with my old internet & power providers. Over a 24mnth contract $8-$13/mnth more works out to be somewhere around $200-$300 more expensive. Paying $200-$300 more over a 2yr period but getting a $1700 appliance in exchange was a no brainer for me. Once my contract is up I plan on switching to someone else, but if TP are still running the promo early next year I'd definitely sign up for another 24mnth contract and get another appliance if I could.

In terms of internet speeds, they didn't offer gigabit speeds when I signed up (not sure if this has changed) but I've been happy with 100/20, and Internet speeds and reliability have been on par with what I was getting with my old provider, so no complaints.

Well my Internet has been come so far. I live in the place so I'm not using it all the time and once I did have to power cycle the router.

Washing machine arrived recently but it didn't include installation so had to pay a plumber to do that but I think it's a good deal.

I switched to them last year..

Got the 55 inch TV and sound bar..
We were with powershop.. who were pretty good.. but my power bill has dropped from on average $350 per month with 5 of us.. to $210 was the last one I got from trustpower..

I stopped using their modem.. cos it was crap.. but once I was connected and everything was running.. I've no no issues at all..

The price in power and internet I was on before moving was costing me more than the switch I've made.. and I get 1Gb fiber plus a TV..

They're not as bad as most people say.. I've had bad experiences with lots of ISP's here..

Telecom - kept getting shaped and crap customer service

Vodafone - Lost too much hair waiting in the queue for them to drop the call "accidently"

MyRepublic - Moved out of a house.. called and closed my account.. 6 months later I found out the new tenants were getting free fiber for 6 months.. took me ages to get that sorted with them..

Worldnet - let's not go there..

Slingshot - Nightmare!!

So after dealing with those lot.. these guys have seemed really easy for me..

No issues, cheaper power and faster internet.. while saving money..

And No.. I don't work for them etc etc..

My home provider is Bigpipe which is ok but they have no telephone support. With Trustpower at least I get telephone support and Trustpower are on this forum so they will actually respond to any problems you have here. That's certainly helped me out with my first installation where my internet speed was really slow until they applied a fix.

What other modem did you use?

Interesting, as I did my calculations and for Gigabit Fibre alone it would cost 1000+ more with Trustpower for 24 months when compared with BigPipe. That alone shows that you actually bought the so called "free" appliance.

Not sure if you replied to the right message but I have ultra fibre Bigpipe at home but for my other residence I was happy with 100 megabits and power and the washing machine.

Even on the 100mb plan, you would still end up paying for the appliance during the 24 month term when you compare the price with other ISP's. TP - $94/m. BP - $79, if you lock in for 12 months you get the first 3 months free which makes it below $60/m. Am sure there are other ISP's that also offer better prices. As what other says, this TP offer is only beneficial to those who need an appliance NOW and could not buy one on the spot. Only downside is you end up with limited options as to what brand or model you get.

I have just calculated my power usage/cost for last year and compared it with the rates TP charges, and it ended up with TP costing about $400 more for the same usage. Add that to the broadband price difference and you end up paying between 1200-1500 on the 24 months. So regardless on which appliance you get, you still end up paying for it albeit interest free. But then again, wouldnt it be better to get the appliance with retail stores who offer interest free deals as well? At least you get to choose which model/brand you want.
