Dunnersfella:

Veon TV's are not LG TV's.

The remote is definitely an original LG Magic Remote, it has the LG logo and company info on the inside of the battery compartment. Which means the TV electronics are probably also LG in order to work with the Magic Remote.

So if the panel, electronics, and remote are all original LG then it's effectively an LG TV.

That's not necessarily valid, the Magic uses Bluetooth so a conventional IR remote won't work with a TV that uses that. I think @michaelmurfy's suggestion of looking for the ThinQ is the best way to find out.

(The Magic is fabulous, why can't all remotes be like this? And for people not familiar with it it's not just the BT, it has a position sensor so it works as a mouse - that alone is worth the money, no more laboriously clicking around twenty different icons and options on a screen to finally get to what you want - the ergononic design is nice, it's just a really well-designed remote compared to the usual rubbish out there).

You may like it but I find the magic remote and webos pretty crap. The wavey remote thing is an annoying gimmick.

AFAIK the magic remote uses IR to turn ON the TV.

2 weeks ago I used my Harmony (IR) remote to change the region on a C1 imported from Germany.

Even if simply a rebranded LG, is that a guarantee that the build quality, PQ etc will be that superior to a cheap Veon? If our LCD LG is anything to go by, they're pretty much as shit as any other affordable side-lit LCD TV.

For some, WebOS and the magic remote may well be a selling point, but I do think it's a matter of "try before you buy" as, personally, I really dislike the interface. The quality of remote is crap as well - the writing on many of our buttons is no longer visible, whereas the remote for our Panasonic TV looks as good as new.

My Apple TV is the only source I use so I exclusively use the Siri remote with my TV. It turns the TV on and off, adjusts the home theatre volume, and obviously controls the Apple TV.

It's so much better than the cluttered and confusing remotes that TV manufacturers provide.

My many year old LG magic remote is failing. Buttons lost the clickyness and it has always been jittery to use the pointer. I hate it and just use the normal IR remote that also came with it.

Definitely uses IR to turn it on and I think it then connects over Bluetooth. Know from experience that whenever the little one moved the centre speaker back at our old house we couldn't turn the TV on.

The wavy remote thing was ok, it just doesn't work in all apps so being inconsistent meant we just stopped using it. Also find it annoying that they have that instead of useful play pause skip buttons which made pausing things like Chromecast over CEC a pain. Ended up buying a cheap LG remote of Ali express but then got a clearance harmony instead which does a much better job.

I don't know the specifics, but I'd assume there's a SOC that supports WebOS and Veon has purchased it... the remote will no doubt be supplied by LG as part of the package deal.

The rest of the electronics most certainly aren't 'probably also LG'...

Things like image processing, HDMI board, tuner, back lighting systems etc will all be from the company that produces the panels for the likes of Veon.

A lot of TVs and other appliances start life as whitelabel products. Not surprising that Veon and LG will do this. May LG are doing it to sell unsold older model stock

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

Bear in mind that even if it's 100% a rebranded LG model, it could still have features disabled, and it's almost certainly got lower-binned panels - worse bleed, colour accuracy etc.

Looks like Konka TVs use the LG WebOS too.
