Fingers crossed this isn’t their last discounted offer in the next few weeks, as I’m relying on being able to buy renew my kids’ ‘large’ plans that were 50% off in mid-Nov last year (https://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumid=164&topicid=310687). No way they need 32GB a month!

You buy it now, receive the voucher code and have until 31 Dec to register it.

My renewal is mid November too.

Add on data is extremely expensive if you run out:

https://koganmobile.co.nz/add-ons/data-add-ons/

That is worth keeping in mind. I used to be with Kogan and this is what pushed me back to other providers -- I ended up spending more on the extra data packs than I saved on the main plans (even at 50% off). Either just over-provision to higher plans if possible -- or perhaps have a second SIM with a provider with cheap data options you can tap into when you run out of data on your Kogan SIM.

I can't see myself running out on the X Large. But if you run out they don't charge you on causal rates right? Data just stops right?

You missed my point that my kids are on the large plan (15GB a month), and they don't need (and I'm not willing to pay for) the additional data of the extra large plan! So I'm keen on more options, not a longer timeframe...

Correct. It is pure pre-pay service.

But for some, simply doing without data isn't an option, and the largest add on data pack they have is 3 GB at $22....

Their starter sim's ($5 for 15GB) have an ~4 month expiry, so could be an option for those who regularly run out and have duel sim phones.

The other plans are all on BOGOF at the moment as well.

Not quite sure what you’re getting at with your *sigh*, given I’ve not seen any reports of any discount on any of the other current Kogan plans, let alone a BOGOF offer, eg https://koganmobile.co.nz/#prepayplans and https://www.dicksmith.co.nz/dn/shop/category/prepay-plans/

I’d certainly be interested if you can point us all in the direction of this BOGOF offer you say is out there…

I may have jumped the gun. I looked briefly last night and could've sworn I saw the Large ones were available.

As you were.

I’ll take that as both an acknowledgement of error and an apology for unnecessary condescension…

@martyyn and @jonathan18

The Kogan website is a little.... challenging....

Martyyn is half right. The Large plan is on sale, in Australia...
If you accidentally land on the AU site, there isn't anything that is immediately obvious unless you're looking at the URL or the deliver to field.

I made the same mistake and that's probably where he thought he had seen it. Which he had.

I'm also waiting for the large plan discount. I've been using it for the past year and the most I used each month was around 12gb.

If I remember well, last year there was a promo at black friday and maybe another one around boxing day?

Certainly was available in Nov 23 but released earlier than BF - I purchased my boys' plans on 15 Nov - so I'll be keeping an eye out from around the middle of the month.

I bought this about a week ago having bought the plan 12 months ago when it was $250 but for 180GB. I never exceeded the 15GB a month and never got close. So 384GB is not going to be a limitation.

For internatinal calls I jiist use an IP based service which gives me a US phone number and I can make calls from it and pay as I call - no monthy charges.  And rates are really good.

I understand if you roam overseas, you can receive sms even without a roaming add on. What about receiving calls, would the caller just get your voicemail straight away?

I did exactly this about a year ago. I kept my kogan Sim in my phone and used an esim for data. Incoming SMS arrived on my Kogan SIM but all my data was coming from my esim. I am pretty sure anyone who tried to phone me would just get voicemail.
