Any thoughts on why all NZ stores are closesing before Australia? I was thinking that they would close all south island stores earlier and send all remaining  stock to Riccarton large format for example.

Queen St still has a bunch of those 6 and 12 volt universal adaptors for $1.50 and $1.60 apiece.

Guess most will be closed in the next hour or so, and that will be the end of an era.

Screw it. I went in just after three and the Palmy one was already closed.

I went to all the Wellington stores - didn't buy a single thing.

I counted a total of 83 items for sale at Porirua all not worth buying, there were amusing signs in the store poking fun at the products. Didn't take any photos, but it was all pretty sad to see.

Goodbye Dick Smith Electronics. I am also pretty tempted to frame my DSE Computer e-club card from 2003 and put it on Trademe for teh lulz.

Maybe there are just so many shops and they need a few more days especially seeing the last ones will be big like the George St Sydney one.

I don't expect that this will be the last company to be mis-managed out of existence.

The assumed receiver's guy (tall bald north american chap with red beard) was in Riccarton late this afternoon trying his best to hock off the remaining laptops and apparently an Apple Mini for ... $600.   I didn't even know Apple minis still existed.

I nabbed a pile of IEC C7 cables from Palms which will probably hit my trademe listings eventually along with my bounty of USB cables from yesterday (I think I'll hold off a few months, at least until the corpse is cold), and the last few 12v power supplies from Riccarton probably just for my personal stash.

And with that, barring any turn-up of worthwhile stock at Turners which I'm now not so sure will happen given how stripped the stores have been, that's my last purchase ever from Dick Smith Electronics.  A sad day, but one which has been inevitable for some years.

My last purchase was a garage remote battery. Exciting stuff.

Went to St Lukes in Auckland today and the shop was closed.  According to a list posted the other day  it was supposed to close April 29. Looks like it sold out early   but looking thru the door there was plenty left..

This article about the sites they are vacating says something about another electronics retailer taking a couple of them (right at the end) - anyone know who it might be?

http://www.stuff.co.nz/business/industries/79466487/Dick-Smiths-misfortune-proves-a-boon-for-other-retailers

However, in smaller towns, such as Alexandra, Kerikeri and Masterton, Wolland said they might struggle to find a replacement, even though Dick Smith often occupied one of the best spots in town.

Most of the retailers interested in the sites were not involved in electronics, except for one local brand which had secured a couple of sites hoping to capitalise on the Dick Smith factor.

The new entrant Australian retailer, which he could not reveal for confidentiality reasons, had been planning to cross the Tasman anyway.

"The closure of the Dick Smith's chains has simply accelerated their rollout."

"Local brand" narrows the field really.  Noel Leeming maybe?

Was hoping to get to one of the Christchurch stores today but didn't get back from Ferrymead in time. So long Dick Smith, and thanks for all the memories. (Especially the old memories, from when you were a source of electronic components)
