No doubt a number of the Dick Smith retail sites still have leases that could run for a year or more yet. The receiver will want to sub-lease these to reduce losses.
And lock thread?

The Dick Smith near me was doing 50% off their Apple this afternoon so I managed to score a couple of last bargains - I saw plenty of guys cleaning out the phone cases by the trolly load so I would expect to see those on TradeMe i the near future

Went to St Lukes in Auckland today and the shop was closed. According to a list posted the other day it was supposed to close April 29. Looks like it sold out early but looking thru the door there was plenty left..
That store had been empty for a week. Everything they had to sell (phone cases, printer ink and cables, button cell batteries etc) was placed along a single shelf around 2-3 metres long. You didn't miss a thing.
This was that branch around a week ago:

They had so many shop fittings left over, that they will very likely end up on trademe via turners or the like. That is when you may get a bargain. It was stupid that they weren't better priced instore, as they won't get much left over in their pocket once the auction houses get them with commission etc they have to pay.

JBHIFI or PBTech?
PB Tech in Hornby seems very busy on the weekend, so I don't think it will be them going into the Riccarton Mall shop.
I know very little about JBHIFI.
The probelm I have heard with going into a 'Mall' , is you have to pay them a percentage of your turnover on top of the rent. You can also have to pay a percentage of the malls advertising etc. So in the case of smaller electronics retailers, where the margins are tight, I can't see it being that attractive.

I don't know much about retail but it seems to me that there is a lot of 'churn' in the shops at the malls, especially in the clothing type shops. On the top level of the Riccarton mall I have seen a lot of shops come and go. You see a shop front boarded up & then a week or two later another retailer pops up. On the ground floor, Kmart always seems busy, but in the USA Kmart is struggling and many of the stores have closed. It would be really interesting to see what Westfield would do with a huge space like that should Kmart go belly up.
I think Kmart USA and Kmart NZ/AU are a different beast.
My feeling is KMart are doing OK (a few of their stores have had nice refits). The St Lukes one is a good shop, and people I know that shop there love it.
I think I know who is going into the Riccarton DSE site, but at the moment can't say anything. I think they get the handover at the end of May (I assume DSE has to do a 'Make Good' on their stores before handing them over). It would then take some time for the new store to do its thing and stock up.
I heard a customer ask a DSE Riccarton staff member, who is taking over the site and I heard him say it's JB HiFi. When DSE announced that were closing down, I was hoping JB HiFi would move in there.

Hopefully a case for most DSE stores nationwide, time that places like JBHIFI expanded and also PBTECH too.

Most DSE stores are way too small for a JB store to go into. Riccarton, Sylvia Park and Manukau are three which are big enough (Hamilton?). JB are already in Manukau and Sylvia Park.

JB are already in or near some of the malls where DSE had stores (Henderson, New Lynn and St Lukes, for example), so I wonder who'll take over those sites.
That Britomart store is in a good site, although that area is going to be swamped with construction for the next few years, which lowers its appeal substantially.
