sidders80:Jaxson:sidders80: I picked up the surface rt for $278 from jb and it was an impulse buy. I have used it for a few minutes and it isn't for me. I am happy with my iPad so gonna sell it now.
What's driving your decision on this please? Considering getting one for my parents so am keen to hear end user opinions.
Where in NZ are you? Will give you $250 ;-)
its not a bad device but using the ios and android for my phone windows rt is not me. good device for a basic use and should be good for your parents. I am in auckland

Did you upgrade it to 8.1, which improves it alot. I initially didn't like it that much, but after spending quite a bit of time with it, and learning how everything works, I now find it far better than the ipad. I does true multitasking and side by side windows, unlike the ipad. So you can be viewing a video while browsing the web. It is a bit like an ipad mini with a wider larger screen.
I don't think it is that suitable for the non technical person, as ios is a lot more intuitive. Windows 8 still has a long way to go with it's interface, it doesn't even have a notifications pull down where you can easily enable and disable services. But the live tiles are far better than icons, and I also prefer it to androids icons and widgets, which seem to slow it all down. The apps are also far more reliable than with my android device. Even with the ipad2, apps regularly crash in ios 7, which I think it is a lack of memory. In some ways the windows 8 RT ecosystem does feel more closed off than IOS, as IE is the only web browser you can use, unlike with IOS where you can installer Chrome, Opera etc
It is better for video watching than the ipad, due to it's wider screen format. With the ipad, you either have to reduce the size or the video gets cropped. I also find it faster than the ipad 2.
The app selection is also not great. IOS has far more apps. But many of the things you can do in your web browser. eg google maps, gmail, pandora etc. IE is a pretty good web browser, and you can actually view flash content on it, unlike the ipad. So you can actually view tv3s ondemand content on it, and in full wide screen.
A pity google haven't really built many apps for windows 8, as I would like to see a chrome browser and google maps.
For something that is a fraction of the price of an ipad, it is a pretty good device, especially as it comes with microsoft office, it's memory can be expanded, it has a USB port, you can have a keyboard and trackpad/mouse, and even plug the screen into another monitor/tv.

jonathan18: iTunes gift cards: does anyone know if any shops have these on special at the moment?
I had planned on buying some iTunes cards with the Apple Store gift card I got when purchasing my iPad - so I could use it to purchase apps - but found that's not possible. So hoping to find some iTunes cards at a good price so I can pick up all the apps I want to over the next few weeks.
Thanks!
