Hi all,

Thought I might start a 'Bargains and Deals' type thread, so we can share any offers or deals we spot.

To kick off, Warehouse Stationery and Canon are offering 25% off when you trade in your old printer.
What makes it cool is that Canon are also offering various cashbacks on selected printers.

Put the two together and you get say the Canon PIXMA MX726 Multifunction Printer for around $56 instead of $199 normally (non sale price).
I think that's pretty good.

So, seen anything else that's of note?

FPR: Thanks for the head's up, I have been after a wireless printer for a while now. Will head down this week.

No worries, there is a cheaper version, the 456 or something, but that only has the two cartridges, with the colour one being all 3 or so colours in the one cartridge.  The 726 has multiple ink cartridges, one for each major colour, and is about $30 more as it has a bigger cashback amount on it.  I can confirm the wireless works well and I can print direct from the ipad and normal PC fine, all over wireless.  Used a WPS button on the Telecom modem, which I'd never used before and I'm not sure if this is required/available on other modems etc, but it all worked ok for me very quickly and easily.

I am quite interested but am just wondering, when you trade in your old printer what do you need to give in? I dont think i have the box. All i have is the cables and the actual printer. Can it be any printer? And where is the cash back info. Sorry for so many questions, just a little lost :P

It probably won't matter too much what you trade in because it will have negligible trade value anyway. The classic is when I got a new till a while back on a 'trade in your old one' deal, I actually gave the rep a tin that I stored coins in :-)
WS will be doing a public service by accepting the old printer so it can be appropriately recycled.

Due to so many cartridges, i am assuming the ink lasts a lot longer?

Also, i am planning to buy all 5 cartridges to get $140 cash back, do i just need to look at the number or also the code before and after the ink. E.G:  (PGI650BK, CLI651BK, CLI651C, CLI651M and CLI651Y)

Do i need to look for CLI and PGI? And BK, M C AND Y? A little confused.. :P

Does the 726 come with ink included in the initial purchase? Still seems good value if you buy third party ink on trademe for $45 shipped for all 5.

I don't think buying the legit ink is worth the $140+ for the full set. The 726 deal ends today (back up $30), so won't be buying that myself actually.

Yes, you get 5 cartridges included.
Some companies give smaller cartridges to start with, but I can't say if that is the case here.

Not sure about canon inkjets, but their lasers only come with starter ones. HP inkjets also only come with starter ones, so looks to be quite common. I found that the separate cartridges on my HP one empty very quickly. I installed a new one and it had to do a cartridge clean and reset, and after that it reduced all the ink levels. So I don't think it really saves much having separate cartridges, if anything you may end up paying more in ink as you are replacing cartridges more regularly as it has to do more resets. I would check the prices of the ink before buying, as these companies almost give the printer away for free, as they make the money from the ink.

So i ended up buying the printer and also a set of 5inks. Hopefully it will all last me a while because a set of 5 costs a total of $180!

Thats quite a lot, even though i got the xl ones. I expect it to last twice as long as my old hp printer which only had 2 cartridges and cost about $90 together..

Not really, they rely on people being tight and changing one at a time, so it goes thru a purge again sucking heaps of remaining ink out of the non changed cartridges at the same time as purging the new cartrige. Seems to use about 7% of the ink on my multi-carted epson printer just changing a single one, so I change anything below about 20% when one runs out.

Since I refill and reset the chip its not a big deal, but I dont want to piss all that ink away into the purge sponge since that has a maximum number of purges it will take.

It's possible to get this slightly cheaper - ok, only 2c cheaper, but, if you don't have a trade in printer it's easier...
It's only available is certain regions.
PB computers have it for 133.40 here.

Warehouse stationary will beat other retailers by 5% on computer gear as listed here.

169* .75 = 126.75
133.40*.95 = $126.73 - That's a whole 2c saving!

Not sure if any of the other retailers of this printer have physical stores so are eligible for the price match offer - you may even be able to get it cheaper.

Note - the ink jet cartridges are only 20.93 from PB, so, you can get a full set for an extra $30. I think the xl set would be an extra ~$47(didn't fully check as not available to me).

Edit - You have 7 days to get a refund from Warehouse Stationary if the above works out cheaper for you.

Exactly what I found. I found it cheaper to actually have a normal single colour cartridge printer , and just change that.

Here's something out of left field...   A deal for sellers instead of a deal for buyers :-)

I ordered this from an NZ retailer a little while ago, and it mysteriously went missing in the post :-(
http://www.fishpond.co.nz/Books/Game-of-Thrones-George-R-R-Martin/9780007441426

RRP was $79.99

I haven't been able to find another copy for sale anywhere, so I'll offer to pay double the price if anyone wants to sell me theirs?

From a quick cursory google search you may be out of luck, there is an American hard cover slip case version on Amazon which is available from $20 used or $35 new plus shipping. The particular one you're after seems far less common and the few copies going are in the hundreds of dollars.
