why do you think stores do cost + gst? aren't they going to lose money if it was actually cost + gst? (need to hire staff, run the power etc to give things away at "cost"!)

surely the word "cost" is not the wholesale price?

I've heard many a story where they tell you the normal sale price is cheaper than 'cost + gst'

in the fine print they say;

"cost reflects the average invoiced purchase price of the product but does not include any volume related adjustments which may apply."

Also as is many times discussed in discussion threads elsewhere before, cost is whatever they designate as cost. My 'cost' includes freight, staff etc.

I think somebody was asking about tools from Amazon earlier, may have ebena  different thread but anyway Amazon have $25 off if you spend over $100 or something like that.

EDIT - I think that applies to certain brands, Dewalt, Bosch etc.

I recently bought an Xbox 360 bundle from EB Games. My understanding from what they said was that they basically buy their stock at full price and then MS rebates them. Because of this they have little control over the price they can sell consoles at.

I was at JB Hifi last night; quite q full house actually. don't know about others yet I got a couple of Panasonic 1.5M HDMI cables (priced at 39.99) for just over $11 each; make me wonder what margin these stuff attracts :)

Also got a few Blu Ray movies, like the Prometheus Collector's Set (4Disc) for just $18, a real good bargain as the set includes 2 BD50 disc for the movie and feature, 1 BD50 3D version, and 1DVD version as well

A messenger bag priced at $99 was sold to me at around $55...

I guess for people wanting to but laptops, TVs, speakers and cameras it would be quite an interesting and productive night...

Often it is the accessories where retailers make their money, and not so much on the main item. The fact that you can still buy good  HDMI cables for $5 from overseas including postage shows the sort of margins that are on them.

playtech: Incorrect voucher code BLACKFRIDAY2.
Enter another voucher code or remove voucher code and continue checkout.

Maybe it's too early in the morning.  I will try again later.
