mattwnz: How do people pay, as it won't process on my credit card that I had loaded into xbox, probably because it is a NZ card. It says to 'Use a different way to pay"They also don't appear to have a paypal option.

They do have a paypal option I believe but you have to set it in your  microsoft commerce account bit thingie, however it needs to be a US paypal account otherwise it doesn't show up

https://commerce.microsoft.com

So if anyone has some bright suggestions on how to pay for things i am all ears.

Cheers

Sorry for the slow reply it was my partners birthday today so we were pretty busy with a family BBQ....  I experienced all of your above issues.

First I changed my PC (running windows 8) region to the US and restarted to get the US app store which in turn got me the Deals app but Xbox Music would show the NZ prices when you clicked through.

So from there I thought stuff it I'm already using the US store for purchasing my actual Xbox games so I can just change my Gamertag over to a US region one via the Xbox website (click account searched change region and changed from there please note this is a once every 3 months thing and has other impacts eg will cancel any existing music passes for Xbox music but will not effect Xbox Live membership but may effect some content where different laws and or ratings are in effect for media or games you've bought).

Now if I remember correctly (it's been a whopping 2 days lol) showed prices as free (or $1.99) but still no dice on purchasing which is where the VPN came in.  Had to turn on the VPN before using Xbox Music (or at the start of the process).  Once you've got your VPN on and your Xbox account set and your Windows 8 PC (I assume or phone) all set to US then purchasing is all good to go.  As like I earlier said they seem to be geo tagging on IP addresses now.

There is a alternative here....Just create a new US gamertag on the Xbox website and set pc and vpn to US and will save you having to change your regular acct.  This will allow you to not jeapodise your regular acct settings in any way.  The music is DRM free so once you've downloaded it you can still transfer it as you like.  Downside of that method is the purchase is obviously tied to an account that's not tied to your console or win 8 phone (probably more a pain for phone purposes but it's not like you can't put the music on a flash drive).

Hope this helps you get what you want in the end I got 22 albums, 5 box sets, a total of 697 songs for $10.94 USD and I'm really hoping that in a couple of days they change out the box sets and I can get more.

Edited for spelling.

How do you purchase things, without a US address? as that is my problem at the moment, it won't accept my NZ payapal or Visa

If you're trying to take advantage of the free or super cheap deals then you won't get them without a US address if you're happy purchasing at NZ prices then Xbox Music is available here anyway.

If you don't have a US address 2 options are (I recommend the 2nd choice here) 1st look up any address in the US via Google (use a state with no post purchase sales tax like Oregon) eg Dunkin Donuts in Oregon or a Mcdonalds use that address and ph number and you're fine.  2nd option is use something like Youshop which is NZ Posts US postal address service for posting things back to NZ that you can buy from online places that'll post to a US address.  It's free, they give you a Oregon address and ph number and obviously if you do decide to buy something you need posted back you're already set up.

From there make that your address for Xbox and then use your VPN service to access the Music Deals app or just shop via Xbox Music directly (although you have to know what you're looking for if looking for the free or super cheap deals as mention in this thread) hit buy (or get it free) and your done once the purchase is complete the music will download automatically.

What I did was setup a new account via my xbox 360 and just used that for these free ones. Haven't been able to buy any records though, but I think you need to use a VPN for that now.

Yah I am not keen to do that because I don't want to need to accounts, one for music and one for not. Free music is great, but not if it's not convenient.

My billing address, and account type us USA, I have tried via VPN still says it can't!

What about the 'region' setting  inside windows 8 settings?

dont need a vpn or dns service, just an xbox account that is US based (*) and need to set your device region to US (e.g. windows 8, 10, or windows phone). I had trouble adding my payment method recently, but I was able to do so on the XBOX console OK - other people have reported that some credit or debit cards work OK.  I also have a XBOX music pass - not sure if that's needed to buy albums though.

whats not working?  the music deals app, or 'buying' the free albums?  have you tried browsing for one directly in the store and purchasing?

if you open the app and search for "Believe Acoustic" does it give you a price of $0.00?  (I used that as example because I *know* I haven't taken advantage of the 'free' deal with that album ;)

I can get the Music Deals App. I can see the "get it free" button which when I press it wants to open "music" app. There previously it told me it wasn't available, but now shows as $17.99!

That acoustic album is $10.99 if I just use the music app. Region is set to US, Locale set to English (New Zealand) which I have just changed and restarted.

My machine logs in using a hotmail account which is tied to my NZ Stuff for MS as a reseller. Could THAT be the problem? My XBOX account is US though.

When you say your Xbox account is US do you mean on your Xbox or you have been to the Xbox website and changed your region to US as it makes a difference as I was getting what you've described prior to changing via the website.

Also there's not much of a hassle to having a 2nd GT that's US based as the music will download to your phone / pc automatically as MP3 files with no DRM so the possibility of a hassle would be if you wanted to stream music from the Xbox Music Website to pc / phone or to your console which now requires a Xbox Music Pass (subscription now required).

It's changed on the website.
