Surprised to see people still whinging about the jbhifi tablets pricing mistake. Get over it.

In other news: as others have said cost price sales, are only good on certain items: eg. AV furniture.  Not good for TVs.

That is why as others have said, that this doesn't really fit into the deals and bargins thread. You also can get far better deals on AV furniture off trademe. I picked up a hifi NZ made rack for less than $100 on trademe, which retailed in hifi stores for over 1.2k.

I imagine the TV's etc they get dealer rebates/sales incentives from the suppliers..That's where the majority of the profit would be in them

The majority of deals actually posted here are deals that look too good to be true, but 99% of the time they are legit and valid deals. eg A couple of examples include Tivos being sold off for $99 when they retailed for close to $1k, and HP Laser Printers where the cashback actually pays you to buy the printer.
Using your logic, you wouldn't take up any deals, because they look to good to be true, when that often is not the case. But the whole thing about deals, is that they often do look to good to be true, and they are often used to clear old or unpopular stock. And I think a small windows tablet I think falls into that category, and it wasn't that long ago when surface RTs were being sold off cheaply for about 1/3 the price they originally retailed at.

You are correct, there are some killer deals, I've grabbed some of them like the Surface RT (which actually turned out not to be such a good deal even on sale lol). But look, those sales you mentioned were for genuine sales, this one clearly wasn't a genuine sale, it looked like a mistake, and I'm not saying this solely based on price, there were actually several indications that pointed to the fact it was a pricing error (e.g. staff didn't know, conflicting pricing on website, no 1 per person limit as is usual for these types of sales etc etc), and many people picked up on these and made comments in the other thread concluding it was more than likely a pricing mistake, many still took a punt hoping that they might score a bargain knowing there was a high chance the order could get cancelled, some simply hoped JBHifi would honour their mistake. By all means try your luck, sometimes you could walk away with a bargain. But in this instance it didn't work. Suck it up and wait for the next deal.

From what I understand, JBHifi have contacted those affected, and given a reasonable explanation (reasonable doesn't mean it has to be the reason you want or expect to hear) and a reasonable timeframe for their refunds, and done this in a timely manner, they haven't ignored the situation. Those people who are continually whinging and demanding more are only making themselves look bad. Especially those few people looking into laws, fair trading act, T&C etc, still hanging on for a way to entrap JBHifi to fulfil an order as a result of a genuine mistake is bordering on douchbagery. Some people's levels of self entitlement need to come down a few pegs to the real world, they've worked themselves up to a point where they think they deserve more than they are getting, and this is not right. Some comments are getting petty, I'm left wondering if some people here are 12 yr old girls. Come on guys, don't be 'that' guy, no one wants to be that guy, you are all better than that :)

From the other JB HiFi screw up, I would be wary of buying anything online from this company.

That is ridiculous.

I have to say that I am a fan of JB as a place to get a bargain, but I am also wary of the "cost plus GST" sales...

I got an absolute bargain a wile back on a non-sale day when they reduced the Sony Smart Blu-ray player (3D) from $198 to $98...it'll probably cost more at this sale!

MikeB4:
Talkiet: These "cost+x" sales are so dangerously close to fraud it's not funny. Their calculation of "cost" price is I am sure technically legal but would absolutely not represent what any reasonable person would think it was.

Try to forget how they come up with the price - if you like the price and you want/need the good, buy it - but don't think for a second they are not making a profit on each sale.

Cheers - N

Of course they are making a profit, that is how they stay in business, just like any other enterprise.

Remember the title is "cost +gst", and as average consumers we under the "cost" as average consumer would do. We have no problem with them making a profit, but please don't lie.
