Watch it, they will cancel your cost+gst night and then charge you full price after you have purchased the product.

From the other JB HiFi screw up, I would be wary of buying anything online from this company.

it's unlikely to be anywhere near as cheap as a good sale. their "cost" is very very high

It's an "average cost" after all.

It will still end up more than normal sale.

I'd like to think this would be a good time to pick up USB sticks etc but its too hard to tell what the pricing will be...

same with NL and HN. I've always found the Cost+GST prices a lot higher than a good sale. And somewhat higher than a normal sale. I'm a good window shopper.

But it is a great time to pick up 2nd hand games as there cost would be not a lot.

These sort of deals don't offer the cheapest rates. Retailers will often get cashbacks / free stock from retailers for every x number ordered.
When I was working at a store in Hawkes Bay a couple years back for every 20 TVs of a particular model we ordered we would get 1 given to us for free and other brands would do cash backs in a simlar fashion, These would be worked into the sell price so we would often be selling at below the 'Cost' price as the 21st tv sold was 100% profit and would allow us to lower the price across the other 20 sales. It would also allow us to show the customers our 'cost' price and show them we were already selling it below cost when in fact we were still making profit on it.

I imagine there will be some good pricing on Small Appliances and Whiteware if you are near one of their 'Home' Stores (Wairau Park, St Lukes and Botany in Auckland).
They have Nespresso machines, that you don't often see hugely discounted - cost pricing on them may be interesting. I'm interested in a Soda Stream, so may go and ask a salesperson if it will be worth my while coming in after 6.
As always, these sales are good for the 'small' things, like headphones, batteries, accessories - items that these stores use to bump up the GP on a major sale. Also good for the higher end items that aren't used as discount bait to get people into stores.

These "cost+x" sales are so dangerously close to fraud it's not funny. Their calculation of "cost" price is I am sure technically legal but would absolutely not represent what any reasonable person would think it was.

Try to forget how they come up with the price - if you like the price and you want/need the good, buy it - but don't think for a second they are not making a profit on each sale.

Cheers - N

Reading these bargain posts lately, there seems to be a fair amount of whinging going on.
People make mistakes - let it go. Also companies try to make profits, this isn't something new.
I can understand peoples frustration, but seriously, just because some here didn't get to rip JBHifi off on an obvious pricing error, doesn't make them a terrible company. personally, I think it reflects badly on the individual more than JBHifi.

The frustration is that nz businesses make absurd markups and then throw these sales around all the time. It's like Briscoes. Don't other buying stuff unless it's half price.

When I can get a pair of headphones here from amazon and youshop for less than a half price sale at noel leeming you know that the normal price is more than twice what it should be.

Could it be, that this is the direct consequence of general mentality not to buy anything unless it is on sale? :)

The thing is now most people carry a device that can instantly expose the rip off pricing while standing in store and let them make an educated decision. Back in the 00's that was rare.

The number of times I've been at a sale, seen a decent saving on some thing, Picked it up, checked PB or mightyape or amazon and then put it back because it's still a rip is quite frequent.
