I have been blown away by how simple setting up Hue was (that includes their app, Google Assistant as well as Home Assistant) All working seemlessly without tripping over each other,,,

So I kinda want to stick to Hue even thought it is pricey

There are other lights that can attach to the hue bridge if you want to stick with it. It seems to be one of the more compatible ones so people are using all sorts of lamps with it, I know of someone with 20+ cheap ikea lamps on a hue that they picked up in the UK when they were there.
