its basically an incentive to get you "bundled", whether they make or loose over the initial 24 month restriction is really not the issue,

Bundling makes customers "sticky" in the current Sales and Marketing lingo, and less likely to churn ( as they have to organise multiple separate transactions if they want to move away from you, and this gives the utility a better change to try to keep them)...

its also a good draw for customers who need a new appliance (ie moving to a new home/flat) and are unlikely to be in relationship with an existing Utility,

T/Power will have run the numbers on the back end of it and would not be doing it unless it made them $$

Well I'm happy. 24 months at Trustpower is 24x94 or $2256 versus 21 months at $79 for Bigpipe or $1659 so $579 less. But the washing machine is $1100 and the one I would have bought so that's better. Plus their power is competitive.

Staying in Wellington. Check out my AirBnB in the Wellington CBD.  https://www.airbnb.co.nz/h/wellycbd  PM me and mention GZ to get a 15% discount and no AirBnB charges.

CrashAndBurn:Interesting, as I did my calculations and for Gigabit Fibre alone it would cost 1000+ more with Trustpower for 24 months when compared with BigPipe. That alone shows that you actually bought the so called "free" appliance.

Well so far.. in 3 months.. I've saved approx 350 bux in cheaper power..

So if that's with me paying it off.. then I'm winning..

That's great if you are saving on the power side of things. Am guessing you were not regularly buying the specials when you were with Powershop? As same with you, I ended up with a good amount of savings when I transferred from Powershop to Electric Kiwi as I can't be bothered to keep managing my Powershop account to avail of the specials.

I pay between $8-$13 a month more with T/P than what I did with my previous provider, but I got an appliance that would have cost me $1700 from somewhere like noelleeming/harveynorman. $8-$13 over a 2yr contract equals between $200-$300 more. So essentially the way I looked at it was I got a $1700 appliance for $300. It was a no brainer to take the deal.

I wish people would read my router guide sometimes. You got absolutely ripped off. That router is both rubbish with WiFi and routing performance. For that price you could have got a whole home solution like the AmpliFi HD (or Instant if you want to save a little bit of money) and had better wireless and routing performance... Honestly.

There are a couple of thing to note with Trustpower with the appliance pricing. They're listing the RRP of the appliances where retailers could run specials on it. For example, that washing machine is retailing at $899 at Smiths City with a bonus Visa Gift Card. Factor in paying more than most other providers for power and you're paying more than just going to buy the washing machine yourself. For me, it is 8c/unit more for power which in itself will cost around ~$15/mo more excl GST (low user) and more expensive broadband. Like I say, for higher use households you could be spending far more over that 24mo.

Your last energy provider must have been absolutely ripping you off as Trustpower are in no means the cheapest provider (as above) or you use a tonne of power. I think in your case it would have been worth to shop around more as I feel you could have saved a tonne more money.

That exact model is currently selling for 1049 at Smiths City. It also goes lower than 1K during sales.

Welll I'm happy with the deal I got and with my low electricity usage the difference in electricity prices is not going to be a factor.
