Rural Applies to suburbs on the edge of 'urban' Blenheim.

evilengineer: Did speak to the local WISP before getting Starlink but stopped when they suggested that the trees on a neighbour's property would probably need to be chopped down.
With Starlink? It isn't as bad as in the early days if there are trees etc around as long as you have a clear view of the sky. You can do a signal test with the Starlink app on your phone but many people have also found it OK with the amount of satellites up there now.
Think you may be barking up the wrong tree. 🤪
It was the WISP that wanted the trees gone, not Starlink.
You can see plenty of sky looking up but not the hill top where the local WISP has positioned their receiver.
As far as the 30-day trial goes, does that just apply to the hardware? From the looks of it, they start billing you at $159/month 14 days after shipping the dish.
I too was thinking of having it for the emergency kit, and would prefer not to spend an extra $159 right at the start. What would be the best way to go about the service side in this instance? - Change the plan to roaming and then immediately put it on hold? Cancel the subscription within the first 14 days and then just activate it when needed?
Obviously if it needed to be activated during another full-scale communication loss, I would leave login/activation details with someone at the other end of the country :)

Buy it from Noel Leeming, then activate it on the Roam plan, and immediately pause. My understanding is that it can then be unpaused via Starlink itself.

Unfortunately I ordered one before Noel Leeming dropped their price, and Starlink won't let me cancel. I can always immediately return the Starlink one I suppose, but if I could keep it without immediately paying for a month of service it would save the hassle of returns and purchases etc.
