I hooked an optical cable up to mine yesterday and could not get any sound from the TV.  Checked the TV menus and could not see any issues.  Just hooked up a pair of RCA cables to the Mrs record player and am unable to get any sound out of that either.  I'm now wondering whether the rear inputs on mine are faulty.  Bluetooth audio is fine.

I'm considering whizzing it back to the store now as we have friends coming over for a BBQ at about 4pm and will be using this unit for sounds.

Can I reasonably expect a swap or would I be obliged to await a repair?

You won't get any sound from the record player unless it has its own built in pre amp which most don't. Most home theatre receivers these days don't include a phono input so you would have to purchase a seperate pre amp for it to work.

That occurred to me just after posting.  Was hunting for my 3.5mm to Twin-RCA cable to try an alternative input source (e.g my phone via headphone socket) but can't locate it at the moment.  Will duck down to work tomorrow and grab one I know is there and try again.

I did just try the optical input with an XBox 360 and the Panasonic received that sound just fine.  Will play with my TV some more - its possible I have an issue with the optical out on it.

According to NL, if you purchased this before the 13th Feb, then the cashback will come from Panasonic. After this date, and it will be a NL voucher, according to panasonic , NL pulled out of the promotion as they wanted to give NL vouchers instead of countdown vouchers. This isn't displayed on the panasonic website that the cut off date is the 13 feb, so suggest everyone contact panasonic directly to see that yours will be accepted by them.

Regretted buying an earlier one of these because of the idiotic decision not to have discrete codes for selecting inputs etc. Programming a Harmony remote to select I/O via the clobby menu system is a nightmare and makes the process VERY slow. (select Home, delay, select up, delay, select across, delay etc etc...................  You get the picture).

Where do they get the design idiots from??

I spoke to Panasonic this morning and the above post by mattwnz is correct, Panasonic will honour the voucher redemption for any purchase before the 13th Feb, they are just waiting on more vouchers to come from Countdown and will then send out the next batch, should be the end of the week or early next week.

Excellent! I bought on the 10th (for $199) so this is a pretty unreasonably good deal. (Haven't unpacked yet - it's sitting there waiting for when I move and have to leave the house furnished)

Cheers - N

Even if the end price was $199 which is what I paid it would still be a good deal, getting an extra $100 back makes it excellent value for money. The system sounds really good for a small unit, I am only using the two front speakers and sub but it certainly has the guts to fill our family room nicely. I have another lounge with an Onkyo HT receiver and in wall speakers which probably sounds a bit better but that cost a whole lot more than $99!

If anything the Panasonic is probably a bit boomy on the bass but as I don't have my unit hooked up to a TV I'm not sure if this can be adjusted, might get around to reading the manual one day.

I found the sound is a bit tinny sounding for voice when using with the TV, but the bass is good. My first one was defective as it kept spitting our the dvd tray when switching it on. But the replacement is fine.

They have just updated their website with the following info

Important Notice

Noel Leeming stores are no longer participating in the Countdown Promotion  - instead they are providing customers Noel Leeming vouchers to the same value in lieu of the Countdown vouchers.

If you purchased your home theatre on or before 13th February 2015 you are entitled to the Countdown vouchers - please complete this redemption to receive these.

If you purchased your home theatre on or after the 14th February 2015 you should have received Noel Leeming vouchers at the point of purchase. If you did not then please contact your Noel Leeming store.

Countdown vouchers for my 8 Feb purchase will be more useful than NL vouchers for my kids and their voracious appetites...

Anyone having trouble using this with a tivo, and an optical cable out from the TV into the luray player for sound? I have found it all works perfectly until you start fast forwarding, the sound sometimes stops working. Normally when it detects a sound, the display on the bluray player comes up 'dolby' for a few seconds. So when you change channel or fast forward, it will redisplay that message for a few seconds and you get a slight sound delay as it detects the signal from teh TV. But occasionally it fails to do this, and no sound or message appears after fast forwarding or changing channel. Restarting the bluray machine fixes it, but when as it is occuring on a  regualr basis (eg a couple of times a night), that isn't a solution. Only seem to happens on the optical output, and not if I use the analogue output. But the digital is far better sound. I am wondering if a firmware update will fix it. This is a replacement unit after the first one was faulty, so I doubt it is also faulty.

Just to add that it's also happening on analogue input. Output is a Sony TV. Would be interested to know if anyone is also have the same problem, or whether I have got a second faulty one. I am thinking it is a problem inside the unit where it is having trouble re detecting the audio signal whenever the signal is interrupted.

SepticSceptic:
kiwijunglist: I'm very site it would have hdmi. As it supports 3d nluray and hd audio. Both of which need hdmi.

Supports 3dBluray, as an in-built BD Player ..

Anyway, looking at the specs, what's with the 30% distortion ?

Power Output - Home Theater Mode (RMS) Total Power 600W Front 100W/ch (1kHz, 4ohms, 30% THD) Center 100W (1kHz, 4ohms, 30% THD) Surround 100W/ch (1kHz, 4ohms, 30% THD) Subwoofer 100W (55Hz, 4ohms, 30% THD)

hahaha

it's so they can quote those stupendous output levels, probably maximum output.

the uneducated consumer still equates lots of watts with quality.

knock it back to single digit distortion, continuous power output and you'll be lucky to see 10w/channel.
