Probably a lot better than any TV inbuilt speaker and you get actual surround unlike a soundbar. Beyond that I doubt it is approaching anything near good.

I was thinking of getting one for downstairs, but in reaility it owuld get unpacked and used for a few months then packed up for renovations so no point, more deals will come along.

mattwnz: What is the sound quality like?

Substantially better than the pretty average TV speakers and the crappy analog tuner on our existing living room radio.  I'm not much of an audiophile so I cant give anything approaching a professional opinion, but it appears to crank up to 'a fraction too loud' quite nicely.  I'll not be rattling the neighbours windows with it.

We'll actually be using it as a radio and an audio CD player more than for home theatre.  I've put a tiny label on the top of the player with the 4 button combo to get the Mrs favourite radio station playing or the 3 button combo to let her stream iheartradio from an old iPhone via Bluetooth without having to have the TV on to see the menus.  She's prepared to put up with pressing HOME, then OPTION, then DOWN, then OK to get her radio station back if the kids fiddle with the remote, or skip the DOWN button to get to Bluetooth input.

I'm also hoping to get it to play network media files as it supports a reasonable variety of video formats, but have yet to try.  My current fanless HTPC decrypts recordings (using the official TiVo Desktop Plus software) from my TiVo automatically and saves them to a NAS.  I'd like to get the HTPC out of the living room to declutter and reduce the number of remotes.

You could get a harmony remote to do the button combos as a single press action , amongst other things.
