Any suggestions for "value" speakers on Boxing Day sale (budget TBC)?

After 12 months of sheer frustration at unreliability I'm giving up on my LG Music Flow speakers (allegedly a Sonos rival) and aim to simply replace them with Chromecast dongles on speakers (obviously needing 3/8 connector). I don't need multi-room capability and Chromecast will enable me to stream & play local stored music, controlled by phone/tablet. No need for Sonos?!

I have both a Samsung M5 and a Panasonic All8 Speaker, both were very cheap when purchased.

The M5 has pretty nice sound quality (it's well balanced for the music I play - hip hop)

It's no longer available now and looks like Samsung got out of the wireless speaker market in NZ.

The Panasonic All8 is currently $175 from JB which is a bargain compared to its RRP of $698...I paid $193 a month ago...

I don't love them due to the treble being far louder than the rest of the speaker...but you might like it.  Uses Qualcomm AllPlay.  This model doesn't have Bluetooth.

They were sold out from the start (aka there weren't really any genuinely good deals)

There were pretty limited numbers. I got an S7 before they sold out last night.

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

Most of the NL deals sold out online immediately last year as well. They should still be available in store though - in very limited numbers.

My girlfriend and I lined up about 15 mins before our local store opened last year and went straight to the counter. We were lucky enough to get 2 x Galaxy S6 phones for $649 each (+ free VR headset) so came out very happy.

Can you not just plug the Chromecasts directly into the MusicFlow speakers?

As an aside, it's kinda common for people to buy cheap speakers and be disappointed... once bitten?

Go component (bookshelves and a small amp every day).

Only the bigger ones have a line in on them.

Ive found since kicking the games consoles and a few other things off the same network they crash a lot less. I suspect that its some craptastic upnp library that they use on them that causes the crashes, since when I had the wemo's and some other stuff that responded to upnp on the same vlan as the speakers they would be dead in 10 mins most times. Still pingable, just a no show in the music flow app and not working from spotify.

Ive now for 3 chromecast audios going into my small class D amps for the outdoor speakers. Multizoning the chromecasts works about as badly as the musicflows for not being in sync, but at least they do not crash and need powercycling all the time. Really would like an affordable analog audio matrix switch that did volume etc as well but costs $ and wont help with the distant stereo systems either.

FWIW the breeze audio amps off aliexpress on a 24v power supply can get some bookshelf speakers to a more than acceptable volume, and mine at least are dead quiet even at quite high volumes on the amp so you can use the chromecast volume with them fine.
