richms: Cost is so inflated at those places that it's often more than normal discounts. Might have a try at jb tho they may cook the books less than noels did.

As per this post, NL "cost" includes all sort of overheads. So no it's not necessarily the price that is invoiced by the supplier to the retailer.

iDear: The 'cost' usually refer to retailer buying price on the invoice. However, there is always a rebate where the retailer make money from the supplier.

Camera model "S1" sold from supplier "A" to retailer "D" at $125+GST. Retailer "D" got a rebate agreement with the supplier "A" at 15%.
If Retailer "D" sold 1 unit of camera "S1", retailer made the margin from the customer and they can ask supplier to pay them 15% of the cost which is 15% x 125 = $18.75. Basically retailer made money on both end.

So on the paper Camera "S1" cost $125, and you will buy the camera at those special sale for $125 x 1.15 = $143.75. However, the true cost for that camera is 125-18.75 = $106.25 so the retailer still made their margin.

I agree with trig42, the best thing to buy is headphones and accessory.

Pretty sure this is exactly how it works. Will also be why things like Apple and Mobile Phones are excluded - no rebates from supplier.

You cannot see it on the image I posted, but in the small print it does say Cost is the average invoiced purchase price and does not include volume related adjustments (which are rebates). So the price is the wholesaler/manufacturers list cost - pretty good deals, just on some things (like price-fighter TVs) the deals may not be any better than what is already in the market. The good thing about these sales is all the TVs within the brand are covered, so if you do not want the one advertised in the flyers, you can take another model and get a good price for it.

That is what it *used* to mean... nowadays, with retailers selling stuff "below cost" or whatever, it's not credible.

I suspected that their calculation of "cost" also includes an allowance for overheads and wages... after all, that's what it really costs the retailer to sell you some item.

But your explanation of suppliers inflating the invoice price above the true cost makes perfect sense.

That is a great deal, thanks for pointing it out.

I've found a USB drive I didn't even know existed, this one plugs straight in to my phone via Micro USB. The 64gb Micro SD card for US$30 was good too.

Looked like $949 for 700D but with kit lens I think.
Couldn't take any more of the body odour at the Wellington store sorry.

Was a weird mix of some items priced and most you have to ask about. That's fair but hard to work with a cluttered packed store.
I'm not after any major purchases presently so all good.

Checked out sony action cams as they can do 120fps video at 720p for about the cheapest I've seen.
From what I saw tonight is still purchase via Amazon US and youshop.
