Satch: How about a new forum is created for Bargains and Deals, and each new deal is posted in a separate thread? That way specific discussions on each deal can continue without creating a single thread which gets into the 50+ pages as this post has got to now?
Just a thought...

polglase: This thread is better as it is. It allows people to watch one thread and keep abreast of any bargains and deals going...
Otherwise we would have to subscribe to the whole forum and be overloaded with emails discussing every product.
This thread should be bargains and deals only. Given the time limited nature of bargains and deals the size of the thread is irrelevant, no-one is likely to search or read through it.
Any in-depth discussion on the product in question should be on its own separate thread under the appropriate forum.
maxeon: If you subscribe to a Forum, you get emails to each deal that is posted there.
Similar to what we are getting now but in more detail with subject of the deal in the email.
On going discussions on each deal is not going to be sent to you further unless you actually subscribe to that thread itself if you are interested.
My understanding is, it works in the same was as we are receiving notifications now, but instead we get notified of new threads in the forum.polglase: This thread is better as it is. It allows people to watch one thread and keep abreast of any bargains and deals going...

My views (except when I am looking out their windows) are not those of my employer.

I disagree, and like the idea of a new forum.
If you subscribe to the proposed new 'bargains and deals' forum, that means you get notified of a new original thread to that forum. You don't get notified of all of the responses to that thread unless you separably subscribe to that post. So you would see notification of a new "Beef Jerky 99c/kg at Pak N Save" but unless you then separately subscribe to that thread, you wouldn't see all of the 'sounds yummy I'll get some today' responses.
If a thread gets beyond the basics, then yes it could/should be shifted to the appropriate forum but I don;t see that happening often.

Indeed. Or you just visit the Bargains and Deals forum for new posts each visit to GZ. Much more efficient than having one huge thread I would have thought?
jonb: I think it should keep as it is. As a frequent user, my main way of navigating geekzone is using the Discussions bar on the front page and click on the subject headings that look interesting. A new thread would have to be titled 'deal on xx' and they might clog up the Discussions box.

That is absolutely a fair comment, and the discussions bar is one of the first things I check then browsing GZ. I wonder if MF could exclude that forum from the discussions box?
