That cabinet is seriously over priced at the deal Noel Leeming are offering... just saying.
Good that you got it for a deal though!
Also..
The big retailers now have rolling discounts to keep the sale going.
So day one will feature some big loss-leaders, when the second day will have a host of new specials, followed by the same thing over the next few days...
Finch:Finch: Looks like JB is having a new sale tomorrow. Laptops included this time if anybody is after a new laptop like myself.
Ehh nvm. Cost + GST. Instore only, prices don't even show online.

I don't bother with those types of promotion. Unless they display the price so it can be compared to other retailers it is just wasting my time. Products which have a sales price on them are often better deals because the retailers can get a better deal on selling at quantity.
True "cost" price isn't known to most frontline staff. There is the cost loaded into the computer system, but that typically won't reflect rebates that are prolific in the industry.
I was in Harvey Norman before and heard the salesman pointing out a TV that was 50% off saying it was a loss leader. Yeah nah.
I've actually been looking around for a washing machine this morning and find most of the salespeople at the big name stores pretty useless. I don't really like Harvey Norman because of their pricing practices particularly around discounting off ticket prices that's inflated to begin with, but you can get some pretty good deals there by haggling.

Why did I ask about UHD then ... umm because all across the board Full HD TVs are more expensive!
That's because people want 4K so they're delivering cheap 4K panels.
The reason many of the full HD panels are more expensive in that price range is because they're typically better quality panels.
Can you elaborate a bit more on "typically Better Quality Panels"? Any reason why you said that?
A while ago manufacturers noted that the new processes involved in UHD panel production meant that UHD TV's could be made for less than FHD sets. I'm picking they kept the prices for as high as possible in the early days, but now FHD's panels will disappear...

Not all TV's are made equal. A quick look around any big store like Harvey Norman will make that immediately clear with vast differences in picture quality between different models. If you look in the $1500-$2000 price range you'll find better specs and picture quality on Full HD models such as the DS series than the low end DX 4K series. 4K also needs to upscale content so the quality of the upscaler is also very important.
I was shopping around for a washing machine today and spent a bit of time looking at TV's as well. My Pioneer Plasma is dying a slow death but I can't justify the price of an OLED right now and they're the only decent TV on the market since Panasonic stopped making their VT Plasma's.
Standing in a shop watching 4K demos in store mode with brightness levels cranked up many TV's look amazing. Watch SD FTA content such as Ellen that was on at the time and on a few of the 4K panels it looked so bad it was unwatchable.
Jaxson: Anyone spot the difference between these two TV's?

They're on sale at Harvey and Noel's at around $1,200 and seem a good buy. One definitely has a 10bit colour processor but the other one doesn't seem to offer much in the way of specs to compare.
The second one doesn't say HDR10 so it's 8 bit... It does have sat tuner that the first one doesn't. It seems to be an NZ model only (in this region, for the sat reason... Oz only has terrestrial digital FTA tv).
If it's hidden or not mentioned, it's not there :D
Jaxson: Spot quiz for the night:
If you mute an LG TV, does the mute symbol/icon disappear off the screen after a while, or does it stay up until the mute is removed?
I have my LG TV connected to my audio system via optical cable, and I've had to set the TV volume to zero rather than using mute as the indicator appears to remain on the screen indefinitely.
