So what do you all reckon? Yay or Nay to Boxing Day 2019 Sales?

IMO seemed pretty average again this year, nothing really got me like Wow!

Tv's were a good showing, especially OLEDs. Most were even cheaper than Black Friday, I wasn't expecting that to happen honestly.

Saw a few good deals at Kathmandu, some items were even cheaper than when I used one of the family vouchers that give you staff discounts.

Most other things seemed a bit meh though.

A few places like Whitcoulls trotted out the exact same sales they seem to have every other week.

I got a pretty good deal on an Insinkerator at Mitre 10 after they did there price promise on the same unit that was on sale HN plus they gave me $30 in vouchers.

I went to Rebel Sport to grab something yesterday afternoon and couldn't believe how crazy it was. The store literally looked like a war zone with shoes all over the place and sugar fueled kids playing with everything.

It was surprising to see the queues were so long and so many people were buying things - in the weekend leading up to Xmas they had better discounts on multiple occasions.

IMHO the best deals for several big retailers are now Black Friday and those leading up to Xmas. There is no need to offer huge levels of discounting on Boxing Day because people are going to go shopping anyway.

Went to Briscoes yesterday, picked up a nice food processor with blender at 50% off. Looking at some of the RRP's there, many seemed ridiculous, meaning that the discounted price is merely a sound price, nothing special. Im wondering if they have arrangements with suppliers to give them special (high) RRP's? So that they can legally label them, then legally discount them

And car parking was a joke, gave up at Westfield Riccarton, went to Hornby, cars scooting past just missing each other, cars parked in white lined areas that indicate this is a corner dont park here and two cars parked in the actual driving area

They don't need any arrangement. They just sell products with inflated RRP's.

Many products are now their own so people can't easily compare items.

For the first time in a long time I was in Auckland for the Boxing Day sales. Man, it was as manic as the Black Friday sales I saw in Hawaii a couple of years ago. I thought Auckland had cleared out for the holidays, apparently not!

I picked up a ‘Frame’ TV that I had been coveting for a while at a price I was happy with ($1500 at HN) but obviously didn’t do enough homework because the sennheiser headset I got for $164 at NL was $16 cheaper at HN. C’est la vie.

Makes sense. There was a product, dang I forget what it was, $799, WHATTT!! It was a nondescript, non big, non exciting product in that aisle of food processors etc Crazy

Briscoes should be renamed Marketing 101 Ltd

The 30% discount off everything is probably enough to bring Briscoes/Rebel prices down to an acceptable level, but not good enough to justify the queue that was snaking almost to the back of the store. I wanted to buy a pair of sunglasses and after eventually getting someone's attention to open the glass cabinet I was told that the price on the pair that I wanted was wrong and it was actually $80 more - the girl was quite rude so I just walked out.

Harvey Norman was similar chaos. I saw one group walking out with five electric frypans so clearly there was a good deal on those, but there was nothing there that I wanted.

Some of the Rebel Sport pricing isn't bad though. They had 40% off deals on shoes a few times leading up to Xmas which is actually very good - I picked up another pair of shoes the same as I'd purchased in the US in October and the pricing at Rebel with 40% off was actually a few $ cheaper than I'd paid in the US.

Briscoes group are an incredibly successful company though that are doing very well.

Rather than mocking the company we should be mocking the people stupid enough to be sucked into their whole discounting model which simply only encourages it.

We did not have any trouble at Westfield Riccarton, a place I usually avoid for being too busy any time of year, with the Get In Early Get Out Early strategy. We were there when it opened at 8, and gone by 9. It was just starting to get typical Boxing Day levels of congestion when we left.

Was able to get a nova 5T in purple for $399 yesterday, got to PB tech albany about 7.45am on boxing day, there was a line but did not make the mistake of going to look for it and went directly to a staff members, all the purples went in 5 mins and the blacks sold out in 40 minutes. It's a great phone and my mate loved his late xmas present

We popped down about 1pm, a 400m line of cars, turned around and left. Had to go back for Chanel No.5 is only sold there, dropped wife off picked her up later
