Is everyone as excited as their last biggest ever sale?  How upset do you think this will make that rug guy down at the Auckland Showgrounds?  He will have containers of rugs just sitting there that he does not want to take back with him.  He won't be able to move them because everyone will be at Harvey Norman.

Seriously.  How are they and every other retailer allowed to continue saying that?  It's not even Christmas time yet.  Do they fire up a "sale" when they get desperate for cash or is it more involved than that?  How might a company prove it was their biggest ever sale if say an advertising watchdog thought they were telling porkies?  How does an informed consumer determine the biggest of the biggest ever sales if there is more than one biggest ever sale on at the same time?

Places like The Warehouse, Dick Smith Electronics and other retailers have things on sale, but hardly ever claim they are "the biggest ever".  Briscoes, Noel Leeming and Farmers are other major "biggest ever sale" offenders.

I don't have a T.V, but they are getting more and more prominent on radio!

From which forum? I don't think this is actually a "Bargains and Deals" thread myself.

What i find funny is companies having the audacity to claim their stocks would run out because of the "sale".

example godfreys.

"There'll be traffic jams".

No there wont godfreys..nobodys buying another vacuum cleaner. We all have one.

Boohoo, they're having another sale. My suggestion: find a genuine problem to moan about.

Their prices are constantly going up like crazy, and they're constantly having to put more and more of their junk on sale to get rid of it, so total 'original marked price' of all the stuff on sale is probably increasing slightly each time, heh.

I feel sorry for those poor hard working guys at godfreys. So I feel obliged to buy another vacuum cleaner at each and every sale. NOT!

I would rather see a sale as opposed to general price increases.

To be fair - they do a good sale - and do sell good stuff at decent prices.

And they do run out of stock at specific stores.

But no - no traffic jams.

The good thing about these sales is that they give you an idea of how much margin is in their regular prices for when you need to bargain them down.

When I furnished my place a couple of years ago I was able to negotiate some pretty big discounts despite nothing being 'on sale' as such.

Well im on the website now, and there doesn't appear to be anything discounted...

There is a listing of all the items on sale, which have no discount, maybe at 9am.

They have a laser printer for $9 after $30 cashback!! Sounds like a good deal to me if that model suited you.

They sell you the device cheap so they can nail you for marked up consumables at the same time you buy the printer and for when you need more ink for it.

It's actually cheaper now, to print with your printer until it runs out of ink, throw it away and go and buy another printer.
