Can you use your own micro or mini usb cable for power supply? Or the unit is hardwired and must use cigarette lighter power supply

So will I on , I guess Wednesday although Dick Smiths can be a bit slow sometimes.

I was actually thinking about the device and what it does , I feel I have become a little demanding as to what I expect a device for just over a $100 to do

You can use any mini(?) usb cable to power the device, the supplied car adapter has a good long cable.

I've been pretty happy with the device. Night time video is a bit weak, but I still think it is a good product by a good brand. If you've been wanting a dashcam I would just get one.
I filmed this last year when I first got it.[edit: the camera does record sound but I have removed it in this video as it was just kids talking etc]

Cheers,
Joseph

One last comment :)
I pretty much forget I have this in the car. It powers on when I start the car and immediately begins recording. It turns off when I switch the car off. I have relatively small SD card, so I get about 3 hours or so of recording. If anything interesting happens you just press the button (or a high G impact does it) and it shuffles that current file off into a folder that is not overwritten by newer video.

I look forward to playtime with a new toy!

So I have my MIvue358 it my hot little hand
neat device
so i used a usb port on the computer to charge the unit up
Found for some reason that it wont show on the liitle screen  with the usb plugged in ok
anyway seems to charge ok so all seems to work fine
I only have a 1 gb micro sd card will get a bigger one tomorrow as it says insufficient space no wories

Installed the software that came with it on my computer
needs codecs.....
Find that there is a new MIVUE manager that doesn't require codecs
ok installed that

NOW!

when i plugin the usb and connect it up to the computer the little screen shows usb connecting then goes out!

anyone else experience this?

I bought a GoPro for use in the car (and because I thought I might start having a more exciting life with base jumping and stuff...joking) and my Dad bought a MiVue. The MiVue is way more convenient than the GoPro which is basically a pain using in the car. But the GoPro is a good small camera for hiking and the beach (Waterproof container).

I've got one of these.

Got GPS version.  I'm happy, sits behind the mirror.

I'll upload some video later.

Can I ask the point of the camera?

I can understand a GoPro on a motorcycle. But a camera in a car? Not being sarcastic, I just dont understand. Thanks

The camera in the car is just there pretty much for evidence if in a crash. In New Zealand, you don't see many of these because people are generally nice here and take responsibility, but you will see them around a lot more in other countries as they tend to put the blame on the other party, even though it was clearly their own fault that caused the crash.
