Great timing for me in order to replace our dead sub - picked up the SVS SB-2000 for $1080 including shipping - a $180 discount.

Website: http://www.rapalloav.co.nz/

Code required at checkout: "Labour"

(It says from 12 today, but it worked for me earlier this morning.)

Coupon code not working for me. Have been trying for past hour. Looks like they disabled it and will re-activate again at 12.00PM.

Classic! Perhaps me getting in early and using it alerted them to it being set up early...  Certainly a worthwhile discount, given they're the only retailer for some products such as the SVS range. I can't wait for my PB-2000 to arrive - though I've been told to expect it's a damn large and heavy box...

Does it work for items already on special?

No unfortunately. I had to add all the SVS components individually into the cart for the discount code to work. When I was trying to apply it on to the already pre-packaged bundles that are little bit cheaper, it kept saying invalid code.

Btw. How do you think that svs subwoofer would compare to http://www.harveynorman.co.nz/tv-and-audio/audio-and-home-theatre/speakers/velodyne-eq-max-10-subwoofer.html which is apparently quite a good sub at a similar rrp but currently 30 percent off.

Those speakers are monsters. Do you live in wellington?

I just bought an avr receiver pioneer sc-lx87 but I have no speakers yet. I'm thinking of jade 7 jade 2c jade 1 and velodyne impact sub.

Ps. This review. Seems to think the bookshelf make a better rear speaker than the surround ones.

That is a really good price for those subs. It competes with SVS SB12-NSD. I wanted a more bigger and powerful beast so went with SBS PB-2000

The reviewers personal taste and room size/setup would be totally different mine.

I don't care about mid-bass prowess since I will have a dedicated sub to do take care of much more than that. The surround speakers are unique. I was 2 minds about either going with bookshelf for the back or the surrounds but after speaking with an audiophoile at SVS and emailing them, Surrounds are much better when set in bipole mode.

edit - I live in Hamilton.

Other than my decision to avoid Velodyne this time around (as it was a CHT-10R that gave up on me, with many other reports online for problems with power supplies), I didn't seriously consider this one at HN as it really just doesn't seem to be in the same league as the PB2000 (and I'd personally have selected even the PB1000 ahead of it).

Frequency response comparison (+/- 3dB):

Velodyne: 28 - 120 Hz
PB-1000: 19-270 Hz
PB-2000: 17-260 Hz

Have you thought PB-1000 (http://www.rapalloav.co.nz/subwoofers-1/svs/ported/svs-subwoofer-pb-1000.html) (or even the SB-1000 or SB-2000 if you're interested in sealed subs) - that's considerably cheaper at $749 full-price, so less than $700 with shipping and after discount. (Reviews suggest the PB-1000 is better suited for smaller rooms, if that's an issue for you.)
