So Countdown have started offering insurance in NZ, as they do in Aus, and to kick it off they are offering free "Grocery Protection".

Policy Wording

"Free Grocery Protection Insurance keeps the pantry stocked and food on the table when you can’t work due to redundancy, illness or injury. It’s some peace of mind so you don’t need to worry about your bills if times are tough. Free Grocery Protection is a limited offer and we only have 5,000 free policies to give away. Get it now – you can do it all here and it only takes a few minutes. If you need to claim we’ll pay you $1,000 a month for up to three months to spend however you need to. Acceptance is guaranteed if you meet the eligibility criteria and there are no medical questions to answer, however pre-existing medical conditions are excluded."

Things you need to know

  • You need to be employed and working full-time (25 hours+ per week) to qualify for the benefits.
  • If you are self-employed, you must be working full time (25 hours+ per week) to qualify for temporary disability benefits.
  • You must be aged 18-55 to apply.
  • The policy ends six months after the insurance start date unless you are on claim at that time, in which case the policy will end when your claim ends.
  • Pre-existing medical conditions are excluded.
  • If you are made redundant, confirmation of your redundancy from your previous employer will be required.
  • If you are unable to work, there's a 30 day waiting period from claim date until you start receiving payments, and they'll be made for up to three months.
  • Injuries are covered straight away but stand down periods apply. You are not covered:

    • For any illness or disease which first occurs at least two months after the policy start date.
    • If you are made redundant in the first three months of the policy start date.
  • Before applying we recommend you read the product policy wording for full terms and conditions.
  • For the full terms and conditions of this promotion click here.

Very interesting way to get all your details to offer you more insurance later.

Policy is only 6 months long as well.
I guess it would be good for vodafone/spark staff at the moment due to some of the changes going on at their jobs at the moment.

If I could get insurance that covered a consistent routine bowel movement every time, guaranteed, I might just consider it.

Dosn't our social welfare system already cover this sort of thing. Maybe not for that amount, but it is supposed to be there incase of misfortune. Not really a fan of these types of insurances coming in. Companies are always looking for new ways to part people of their cash.

Yes it does however there is stand down times, last time I was out of work (redundancy) I was told that my stand down would be anywhere from 8 - 12 weeks due to a payout (4 weeks) and I had small amount of savings.  They work out the stand down by how much you have and how many weeks that would last if you were getting a unemployment benefit, they don't really take in to count bills other than rent.

It almost wiped me out but was able to get work around week 6 or 7.

So something like this could be handy if you have a feeling something is up at work etc.

At the moment i see things are happening at a couple of telco's so it could be handy (as it's free for 6 months) for some of those people to sign up as they could get 3k out of it for no money down.

You might want to have a check with your doctor. It *should* be regular.

Looks like there is also a standdown on this policy too. But as it is free initially , it certainly maybe worth it for some people.

I'm more than happy to cover you for happiness protection.

My rate is $1000 per month. If you're unhappy you can call me and I'll give you $450 on the spot to spend on anything that will make you happy. Maximum of 2 claims per month.

The free policy is valid for six months only but the FAQ says it does not cover "redundancy in the first 3 months of the policy"...

So, three months only really?

This is price gouging, plain and simple.

This shows how poor old small New Zealand isn't keeping up with the prices of happiness insurance in the US.  I bet it's to do with peering (sorry, friendships) in New Zealand, there's fewer people, so fewer peers (sorry, friends) so happiness is more expensive. Ugh.  When will New Zealand get proper friendships?

OF COURSE do not get me started on how there is only one cable (Sorry, flightpath) in and out of New Zealand.  No wonder it's so expensive for friends to come to New Zealand.  Why won't someone invest in another flightpath so friends can get here cheaper and we can finally complete with the rest of the world when it comes to friendships?

I will now get confused about the fact Spark and Chorus are two separate, independant companies, lump them together, and blame them.

Unfair.

Audiophiles are such twits! They buy such pointless stuff: Gold plated cables, $2000 power cords. Idiots.

OOOHHHH HYPERFIBRE!
