mattwnz: I call many of these sales simply price rotations. They make sure that they are off sale for more days than they are on sale for. The best sale items are those that are loss leaders, and are not simply junk items to get people through the doors. But there are very very few items that are really great value on sale. They problem is that many stores have limited quantities and may say something like 'only 100 nationwide' but you have no idea how many a particular store may get. But they do also often have stock to sell at the normal price after the sale stock has sold. They may only limit the number that are on sale to a particular number. I think that sort of marketing should be stomped on, as consumers have no idea how many items a store may have on sale, and how many may have already been reserved by staff beforehand. It is just to get people thought the doors, and if they are disappointed, they often buy something else similar for more.
