Just wondering about the experiences of other people and one day deals in regards to dining out.

We just cashed in one we got for a 3 course meal for 2 people. Was advertised as 50% off so I payed $70 for something that was supposed to cost $140.

Man oh man , it was fantastic , 3 courses of divine food. We will be going back and paying full price as there are some other things on the menu that I would like to try.

Some of the best food I have ever eaten and I have been around the globe a few times.

This is the second one day deal we have tried and the other one was very good as well but completely different.

Will be trying a few more if we (the missus) see's them come up.

Your experience is the reason one day deals exist. It's one of the marketing ways that restaurants can get you to try something you wouldn't normally, which then all going according to plan, means you will return, hopefully at full price, again and again.

Also you will tell your friends.

We have a group of friends who all love to eat as we do, and so we often get foursome deals or moresome deals so we can socialise whilst we try the great food on offer.

we use the entertainment book a bit and never mention/say anything till we go to pay

we have the entertainment book, and I also get the occasional daily deal food deal - especially when travelling out of town, or when grabbing a degustation for a special occaision.

recently went to Vinnies (Ponsonby) for a 5 course degustation.   It was awesome, highly recommended.  I did, of course, take the wine match adding an extra $70 to the bill :)

Your experience will be very much restaurant dependant, rather than deal related.

We have had some good ones and some poor ones, but it comes down to the restaurant and what prices they pitch their meals at in the first place.

People still use daily deal sites? It's been 12 months + since I even bothered looking at one.

I for one still find these daily sites (mainly Grab One) useful for discounted meals as otherwise we just wouldn't have the necessary level of disposable cash to eat out - including taking our two children - on a relatively frequent basis. If we were child-free and/or wealthy it may be a different story, but in our circumstances I've loved being able to eat out a decent amount, especially on holiday (I buy vouchers ahead of time, knowing when we'll be in a particular location).

Why would you comment like this and then not provide a reason for not doing so?

There's still fantastic value on the likes of GrabOne and redalert(the warehouse).

100% agree with this. Depends on the type of dining you like to do, but we find (usually) the degustations are excellent value.

From a marketing perspective it has to be done right.

In a way, discount coupons, vouchers and having to present one can make the establishment look 'cheap' or have customers associate it as cheap. It can also be a great way to get people into your venue and as observed from OP, word of mouth.

The yanks love their coupons - and clipping them everywhere even for groceries. In fact it is the one thing that is the still relevant and if not more effective in the digital age
