One day sales are bad enough, with having to go to work etc, but 14 minutes is just silly. I wonder if this breaks any commerce laws or anything?
I can see the evolution of this logic..."sorry you're too late our sale only lasted 1 minute."

What about Bait advertising, not sure if it would cover very short sales periods? I can't see how anyone could take advantage of that sale, and it wasn't even a high percentage off. I expect 15% of retail prices normally anyway.

I didn't get the email until 6:16pm, sale started 6:14pm. Didn't see it until much later myself. Has to be one of the dumbest marketing stunts, you would have to be constantly checking your mail to see the offer and be quick enough. Most of the deals they send have stupid catches in the fine print like promo code only valid for first 100 sales, waste of time IMO.

I found out 12hrs in advance. Just because you missed out you shouldn't complain. it was a banner on their website clearly stating the terms of the sale. Apparently It included items already on special so there were a few very good deals. Surprised people feel so hard done.

Edit - sorry wasn't directing that comment specifically at you cokeman, just in general ppl seem to feel so hard done.

They (dse) do this all the time now. They have frequent one day or one hour specials. Im guessing the idea is to get you to frequently check the site and form a habit. Amazon does this too. perhaps its been shown as an effective marketing technique for online shops. Computer lounge has weekly ?24? Hr special coupons. I imagine it also increases the chance of you buying something you didn't know you needed via time pressure.

I don't buy anything from Dick Smith anyway, so it's no skin off my nose to miss out.

I recently found out how bad Dick Smiths online sales only are

http://www.dicksmith.co.nz/digital-video-cables/ds-gold-series-hdmi-cable-5-0m-dsnz-cn2106

these were advertised online as $3.66  per cable on waitangi day

I was unable to purchase online due to their web site not accepting any of my payments (tried different credit cards and a debit card )  , so i went along to a local store and they honoured the online sale price.I manged to get 3 of the hdmi cables  for the total sum of $10.98 yes only $3.66 per cable.

Missing a 14 minute sale would be annoying. It seems more likely to produce dissatisfied customers than happy customers.

The time it takes me to shop has dropped since I stopped using Dick Smith. There would be really good deals but, as others point out, they were often short-lived, easily missed, or hard to find. I'm very surprised that I seem to be spending less now when previously almost everything I bought from Dick Smith was reduced in some way.

I'm not complaining because I missed out, I never had/don't have any intention in buying anything from dse. I'm just saying it was a poor marketing stunt than rather than actually trying to give customers a good deal which they allured customers to, yes maybe a few got a good deal but still.
