I don't know if these are any good or what comparable prices would be elsewhere, but at $10 they seem pretty cheap to me. This seller also has a larger, slightly more expensive version.

Ugh, another of the annoying overseas slow shipping sellers on trademe.

They are one of the many reasons I am avoiding it even more now. If I am on trademe I want local fast to ship. Not 2-3 weeks like I can get from china for cheaper.

Not sure what those Trademe ones are like, Unified looks cool but probably not as convenient.

Another option presuming your software and TV support it is using CEC https://www.pulse-eight.com/p/104/usb-hdmi-cec-adapter
I use MediaPortal with one of those and it is excellent, use existing TV remote for TV and PC seamlessly

Just be aware of the device limit on CEC - seems to be 3 for me, some people report 4 devices working ok for them.

chromecast, fire tv, PS3, PS4, bluray player, MHL cable, and ezcast all support it. Only 3 at a time will work. Any more and 3 show in the list, but its unreliable.

Interesting, we only use the PC and TV essentially so have not hit any limits.

I saw a few of those last week on Trademe. Many were around $5 mark. Saw that UK one you refer to and he was dearest. I thought about it but was iffy with being so cheap. Managed to get Microsoft one off ebay for $20.
Thing is I have a HP Media center remote as well but dont like the layout, the MS remote has reaaly nice button layout for me

There is no CGA protection as the seller is based overseas, so you are better just to buy off ebay or dx which sell the same thing. Even though these overseas trademe sellers are advertised as being 'intrade' sellers, and trademe advertise on their website that 'intrade' sellers have CGA coverage as they are selling in the NZ market. I have asked one of these overseas 'intrade' traders on trademe if they provide CGA coverage, and they said they didn't.
I do have a remote like the one advertised, well the same brand, but a better looking remote and it has a lot more buttons. It is ok, in that it works. But the arrows/cursor pad doesn't work properly, as the cursor pad. But fine as a basic media remote.

This is what I did with the right code. Think it was a china vision remote profile or similar from memory. The receiver however didn't work with the windows media remote.

That was actually my thinking. I was looking for something that would work with the Harmony so I could get rid of the extra pc remote.

The harmony can hopefully learn any existing commands at a pinch.
Unrelated but often the harmony device database includes commands that arent on the actual device remote, such as discrete input commands on TVs that can be extremely useful for automation purposes.

On both my HTPC's I use the Old MS remote's USB receiver with the Logitech Harmony all in one .
Whatever you get, you need to make sure the media centre software supports it. The MS remotes were the easiest to get to work.

I have a Logitech Harmony One Remote, that I don't really use. It's just painfully slow. I've read about decreasing delays etc, and I believe it's set on minimum.
Do you guys not have that issue? Using a wireless keyboard e.g. is instant, no perceivable delay. With the remote 200-500ms, and it drives me nuts.
I'd like to use the remote... layout is pretty awesome.

Side issue is the rubberized plastic has gone real manky, all sticky. It's just deteriorated even though it's been used for less than a couple hours and has been sitting in a draw away from sunlight and moisture.

We're there any other chemicals in the draw? Particually air fresheners and "furniture polish" because I have found those to stain and sticky up paints and plastics.

Nope. Definitely nothing like that.
I suspect it's just the crappy plastic they've used. Had it for 6 years. But probably well over 2 years it's been sticky. Can't be sure, just haven't used it for all those years cause of the delay issue.
