Since I somehow missed out on winning that GZ draw for a Megaboom (and having convinced my wife it was a must-have purchase by giving her a demo at the local NLs), I've been planning to buy one when I could get it at a good price. I got a Pricespy alert this morning.

Dick Smith has a damn good price on it today and online only - $258.05, whereas the next-best price seems to be $339 from PB Tech. (My work discount at NL would have been for $328, so I'm still saving heaps on that).

Looks like they only have the black in stock (which was the one I wanted anyway); no free postage on it, but can do click and collect for nada.

Personally, I think the Mega is worth the additional amount over the Boom, given its better bass extension and overall volume.

That said - I've seen that DSE also have the Boom at a great price - $140.95, which is under half DSE standard price; next-cheapest is PB Tech again at $237. Seems like it's the blue one only though.

I preferred the UE Boombox vs the UE Boom.  I thought the boom sounded pretty weak to be honest, but I guess the compromise in sound is due to the smaller size.

May well be! I've not had a chance to hear the UE Boombox, and it appears to be hard to purchase these days.

While I totally agree sound quality is critical, I think the advantages the newer products offer (including waterproofing/resistence depending on which model, and 3x the battery life) are also important in this context.

As I also pointed out above, there is a distinct inprovement in audio quality between the Boom and the Megaboom.

I'm not expecting a hifi device, and am happy with the sound quality relative to all the other issues and benefits. It's also a far better option than taking our UE Smart Radio around the section when we want a portable music source! That device is not designed to go loud or into dirty locations...

The UE Boom is back to full price (although it still has the "online only" icon).  Perhaps that was a mistake or they've sold out of a cheap shipment.  It was a very sharp price, I was too slow to grab one unfortunately.

I bought online for $258 just now. No option to collect, but only $4.95 courier.

I believe the post directly above yours was talking about the Boom, rather than the Megaboom. I checked and confirm the blue Boom is back up to standard price.

Weird how you couldn't select click and collect - guess it may be store-dependent? Mine's all ready to pick up from my local store...

I ordered mine around 1PM and the Dick Smith site showed me which branches had them in stock and ready to pick up and let me choose.
I'm in ChCh by the way.

Ok picked mine up today after work.

Have to say I am super happy with it and worth the money.
My old bluetooth speaker I could have on full volume and it was ok, I have not moved the megaboom pass 1/2 volume yet and I can hear it very well from the other side of the house.
No drop outs on blue tooth from the other side of the house either

So worth the full RRP ($400) I would say yes.
Worth getting at $260 big yes.
