Got an email 20 minutes ago from Snap! with a great deal on the AVM DECT Phones that pair up with Fritz!Box's they sell.

SNAP!
Was a 3 minute wait to get through to a helpful fella at their call centre who ordered one for our account. He did make it clear though that supply was not guaranteed and we would be emailed if and when one was allocated to us for pickup. For $29 it really is a no-brainer if you don't already have a better solution in place. For us it will be replacing a 10 year old Uniden cordless phone that struggles to last the day off the charger.

Conditions: Must be a Snap Plus phone customer and have a Snap supplied Fritz!Box. Not for resale. While Stocks Last.

Are these better than Uniden or Panasonic DECT phones?

Do whatever you want to do man.

Over the last year I've tried using a Uniden and Panasonic DECT cordless phones with the Ftitz!Box's built in DECT base station with pretty sub par results. The voice quality was below average and things like Caller ID did not work. This may well be a limitation of the DECT base station on the Ftitz but we quickly reverted back to the standard base that came with the phones.

Like everything I seem to buy these days these phones come with a lot of extra goodies that while cool are probably for gimmick value only:

Highlights

  • Cordless telephone (DECT) for Internet and fixed-line telephony
  • Ideal supplement to all FRITZ!Box models with DECT base stations
  • Supports HD telephony for natural sound quality
  • Full-duplex hands-free operation, open listening in HD quality
  • Secure ex works thanks to encrypted voice transmission
  • Receipt of RSS feeds, Internet radio and podcasts
  • Read and reply to received e-mails
  • Telephone book for 300 entries and multiple answering machines
  • Call lists, alarm, baby monitor, do not disturb function
  • Talking time of up to 10 hours, standby time of up to 6 days
  • Very easy to update with new functions – at the push of a button
  • Clear menus on high-quality color display (180 ppi)
  • Ergonomic, illuminated keypad

Got the same email. Just ordered 2. Great timing as my Gigaset had died.

Thanks Snap!

I hope they do the illuminated keypad right. My panasonic only lit the numbers. Which are the same as every other phone. The menu and end and call buttons were dark. Guess which you need the most in the dark?

I still have my fritz fon sitting around somewhere - will put it back into use once i rewrite things in the house.

Its a great device, never had an issue with it, unlike the beast that is currently in use here.. Mobile clearly beats touching that ;)

Peering with a fritz, these make a great combo.

Just need to source me some of the AVM dect repeaters now. Last I asked they had no plans to make one with the aussie plug on it so couldnt legally import them here for resale.

I've also just ordered 2. Haven't used the SNAP Plus phone service associated with my account and don't have a landline so seems like a good offer to avail of.

Can anyone speak to their experience of the SNAP Plus phone service? I can't find any real overview of how it works on their website... Is it easy to setup and use? What extra charges are there for making calls? etc etc... (VOIP virgin on the [virtual] line...)

Been using it ever since I got UFB installed and never had a problem.
In addition, I've added a 2Talk number  (for another NZ city so that relatives can call a "local" number) to the system and they work together perfectly.

Depends. With regards to setup, it worked "out of the box" for me (and all my friends who I've put onto Snap).
You can either use the Fritzbox as a DECT base station or plugin a "normal" phone to the Fritzbox.
If you're adding it onto an existing system, I'm sure the Snap engineers could have you sorted quickly (assuming you're using their gear).

You can either pay for non-local calls on a call-by-call basis, or pay $10/month for unlimited NZ calls (might want to check the price).
Personally I found the only place I was calling (regularly) was Dunedin so I added a 2Talk number so people can call me + I can call them for $6/month.

Hope that helps.

I've have gotten one, but $15 shipping makes it higher than I'd want to spend for something I don't really need.

Are you in Auckland?
Combine shipping with me?

I'm keen for one but not a snap customer!

if anyone else in akl wants to help me out we could save on courier as a bonus.

I don't know how i missed this, quite gutted as this would have gone with my 7490 perfectly.

Gutted, missed it too. Emailed a few hours after receiving it.

They're replacing with a "new" model. But they don't say what?

FRITZ!Fon C4 ? It's been around for a year I believe.

Struggling to see how it compares to the MT-F? Seems pretty similar to me.

That helps a great deal, thank you! 2talk charges $10 +GST for their most basic non-gratis service, will just have to decide if I can get the value from it. Doesn't seem to be any detail on Snap site of what the Snap Plus service actually provides though... Phone number? Included minutes?
