I got my brother a 50% sunbeam stainless steel one, that works in a similar was, that was $50, and they find it really good. More than powerful enough, and looks better than this one IMO. So this does seem pricey for what it is.

Thats the way I felt about them as well. Then I got one, and its actually fantastic. Small enough to be next to the jug, and far easier to clean than a blender. We really like ours, only got it after trying a friends one.

I wouldn't get the NutriBullet while the motor is ok, the locking mechanism is crap and quite often it gets stuck solid, have to stick a knife into the grooves to free it.
Currently looking to see if the Nutri Ninja is any better.

We have a blender that the wife uses every day. When we were overseas she used one at her friends and decided it was significantly better. From what I saw, the output of the Nutribullet is quite different than that of the blender. Haven't seen the informercials (we have mediaportal, don't watch ads), but, seeing it in operation, it is quite different than what a blender achieves.

Edit - I must admit, that's what I thought as well, before I saw one in real life.

Hmm, the used ones on Trademe are more expensive...
There was 1 that sold for $136 in Canterbury, and another for $160, the rest went for more for a used one.

Nutribullets are actually awesome!
We bought one off TV (they wanted $300, we paid $195) and loved it so much we bought one for my parents as well.
We use it every single morning.

I would definitely pay the lower prices now, Briscoes do the 600w model for $129 and the 900w model for $159 in their sales.

The NutriBullet is still "a glorified blender" even though it is called a "nutrition extractor". The specific configuration of features is different than other blenders but that's common for items sold on shopping TV. The makers want unique descriptions and patentable differences to make the products sound better. Having said that the broader base at the mixing blades probably makes it easier to blend the contents more effectively. Even so, it doesn't provide any function that wasn't already available.

a thing that mixes things together, in particular an electric mixing machine used in food preparation for liquefying, chopping, or pureeing.

The price is not bad because there are some very expensive blenders. One advantage it does have over many blenders is that it can do a good job of chopping/grinding nuts, seeds and spices - some blender don't make very smooth pastes/purees.

And I have seen many in real life.
