I cant find meridian offering $50 prezzy card etc. and I think there is no contract if we chose variable pricing option which will be 11% prompt payament discount and not 15% prompt papyment.

Was a door knocker. Deal seemed to good to be true but it all worked out legit. Their 22% discount for paying online, made them cheaper than who I was with too

Powershop did $250 a couple months back. $100 initially then $50 a month there after (x3).

Also had the contact sales guy come door knocking with the $250 no contract offer... You can't phone and do direct with contact, must be via one of the door sales guys.

Many typically do $100-150 signup credit.

Just seems silly handing out all this credit, just creating unnecessary churn.

I like the detail of Powershop's website / control panel. But not liking this topping up, buying power thing though. Just seems like added complexity and work for no benefit.

Their combining the daily charge into the unit charge is annoying. When you signup they just take a guess at working it out, so I've been paying more per unit than I should for a while. Also I had a hiccup during the switch over which meant Energy Online charged me for around a month daily charges with no usage while Power shop charged for the usage - but Powershop has the daily charge worked into the unit price, so again got stung (effectively paying daily charge to both providers for same period).

Suspect it's just cause of the variable prices and it being winter, but it's also working out to be more expensive than Energy Online.

Anyway don't think it's for me. Prefer the idea of Flick - far more transparent.

As a current powershop user, there charge system is a treat in the summer - online, pre or post pay, discounts if you do the former (and good ones)- great . But because they buy their power second hand the prices in the winter are not great. If you are post-paying during the winter period especially, you are paying for it.

In someone could offer me credit, but with the payment flexibility powershop has, I would already be shifted. I am still considering some options.

You got in at the right time. Just make sure you pre-pay your bills, otherwise you'll get shafted in winter, overall.

Assume you mean stocking up with summer prices for the winter. Couldn't do that cause I joined in winter. Have been buying all the specials as they've come along, and concluding from that they're bit more expensive (basically as to be expected).

Powerswitch.org actually reckoned they'd be $6 more expensive a year than Energy Online (that includes all the discounts and specials).

In a recent article discussing the potential savings from switching power companies, the case study (in Wellington I believe) put together by Consumer showed Powershop to be the most expensive option. I wonder if this is a reflection on the time the scenario was run and/or that it's probably not possible to calculate a single cost that all will pay given the variabilty in potential charges from Powershop (eg ability to purchase specials, pre-purchasing in bulk prior to winter etc).

We were with them for a year or two, but to be honest I never felt I could easily tell whether I was getting a good deal or not. I find it less hassle with Flick (where the 'work' if you can be bothered is in shifting power usage, not purchasing in advance).

I'm with genesis for electricity and reticulated gas.
I've checked several times over the last few years to see how my pricing compares based on how much power we use.

Whilst the individual electricity companies are often cheaper for electricity,  by the time you take into account the duel fuel discount I get for gas, genesis has always worked out the cheapest of all the options.

I could probably save a bit by switching every year for the credit,  but tbh I can't be bothered.
