Anyone here know how warranty coverage works with drives bought off Amazon?

While it's nice to save money, it seems like all the savings on many of these would be wiped out if you had to ship them out of the country to RMA them.

Amazon cover DOA and generally will give you a couple months of coverage where they pay for returns.

After that it's your responsibility to ship them to repair center (wherever it may be), luckily SSDs are super small so if you really do need to RMA you can just put them in a letter.

Looks great when you look at US$ price but by the time you have converted in NZD and paid for shipping, not sure the price is that exciting.

Unless there's some significant development with platter drives (or some other form of competition), I doubt SSD manufacturers will have any reason to lower prices that much.

Without some reason for them to really drop prices, I'd be very surprised if we were getting >4TB at that price by the end of 2018. My guess would be 2TB around $200 (give or take.)

I would love some of the big ones but they will still get you pinged for GST, "service charges" and so on when imported at that price.

Yeah. So Consolidate to make the service charges get spread over a lot of items. Or send airmail which has a lower rate of getting stopped and hope.

Anyone had to make a warranty claim on an Amazon sourced Samsung Evo SSD. I tried recently for a microSD and didn't have much luck.

I'd be reluctant to get one if I can't make a warranty claim.

Claims on drives requires returning the drive with my data on it, so I dont do it. In saying that other than a virtually OOB failure on one drive, ive found SSDs to be way better than rust based drives for not dying.

Was too late to return it to amazon, didn't really use it early on.

Finding a way to lodge a warranty claim for the microSD card seems near on impossible. I haven't tried Samsung local, I figure they won't want to know about Amazon sourced product.
The one ticket I did open, I got a phone call for and the rep thought I was trying to claim on a phone.

I'm not that bothered about a $30 card. Even writing it off and replacing it, I've still only paid half local prices.
Just makes me nervous about higher priced items.

Strange you say that as a work colleague bought in one of his drives he got from Amazon.... it had died within 2 weeks.

He has to make up his mind what to do with it as it has highly confidential work files on it.
