I ordered a brother sewing machine 2 weeks ago when it was on special. After two weeks Warehouse came back today saying "

"Unfortunately we have had to cancel your order for this sewing machine as sales far exceeded stock. We have been trying to source further stocks but unfortunately have not been able to which has resulted in the delay advising you."

The funny thing is:Its still available online @ full price and showing in stock, tried adding to cart etc up to paying by credit card and no errors.

Does it sound like a scam?

They may have had stock allocated to the sale and they all sold out.

Have had many issues ordering from warehouse stationary in the past with them just forgetting orders till I remind them. Only local company I really trust for online shopping is mighty ape.

I think when this happens with WS it's more a case of their online inventory system being broken.  My guess would be that they had a certain amount of stock through the supplier that was at a discounted price, and they over-sold.

I actually placed an order for one of these, and ended up calling WS to make sure the order was being processed (it sat on a 'processing' state for a week).  They were quite apologetic and said they'd keep me up to date, which they did, and the machine arrived today.  I mention this only because of the massive difference in quality of service to other similar retailers (I'm look at you, HN) who won't even accept DOA returns in-store, "because the web guys finished at 4pm today".

Edit: oh, forgot to mention - the WS guy said they'd sold over 50 of these, which is why they had fulfillment issues.

fwiw we got ours about a week after we brought it. Sounds a lil crappy that they won't honour that deal if the website still has them listed as in stock though.

Not a scam but their site always has odd stock issues.

That machine was $49 after cashback, insane price much like the LG G Watch R that oversold(and they also honored that for most of the people)

Aren't they sayingit is only delayed, and not cancelled? If they still have it instock, IMO they can't then cancel the order to say they don't have any instock.

If they advertise a product on sale they must have stock to cover the expected sales volume. Since they do this sort of thing all the time I would say they are in breach of the act... not that that helps

I'm just going by what geekbhaji said

"Unfortunately we have had to cancel your order for this sewing machine as sales far exceeded stock. We have been trying to source further stocks but unfortunately have not been able to which has resulted in the delay advising you."

I bought one too that hasn't arrived yet.
I haven't had an email about it though.  Can you view your order status online?

EDIT: yes you can.  Mine is showing as 'In Process'

I need it to arrive fairly early, otherwise it won't be eligible for the cashback.

If it's in stock online they don't really have much of an argument!

This shows at out of stock online presently: http://www.warehousestationery.co.nz/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/WSL-B2C-Site/en_NZ/-/NZD/ViewOfferDetail-Product?ProductUUID=KTsKBTFwgPsAAAFJ1GMFOeev&JumpTo=BrowseStandardCatalog

Whoops misread it. I thought they were contradicting themsleves by saying it was canceled, and then delayed. But the delay was referring to the time it took them to contact you. . Well if they have stock in stores or online as instock, then they should really use those to satisfy orders, otherwise they can't really say they don't have stock can they?

Quoting richms: "Only local company I really trust for online shopping is mighty ape."

That's pretty tough! I can think of heaps - Ascent, Rapallo, ELive, - there's lots in the geek area - not to mention other stuff like homewares etc.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Ascent dropship so I have no idea how things will be arriving.

Not bought from rapallo in a looooong time because pricy, but when I did it was pretty poorly communicated with tracking info from what I remember. Certainly not as bad as the warehouse.

Never bought from elive.

I have seen The Warehouse do this quite a few times, you order something and then get an email a couple of weeks later saying they don't have stock

The fact they take weeks to bother even doing that shows how stellarly crap their customer service is.
