Sunday (1/11) checked the PB website - 4TB NAS HDD ST4000VN000 price $274 including GST
Went in Monday morning and the price on the shelf label was $274 but the cashiers invoice showed $297.85
I was told that $297.85 is the new price but they agreed to charge me $274 after I showed them the shelf price.

Now I see the HDD is on their Thursday Online special at $284.05 a saving of $13.80 they say... but actually it's still $10 more than last Sunday.

So... price hike 3 days before a sale or honest coincidence? seems a little suspicious but I only can offer this one example.

Their pricing goes up & down on a regular basis, so I wouldn't read too much into it.

US dollar means IT stuff has been trending upwards. Just take a look at the new Surface and iPhone pricing.

Even if it wasn't, their reputation is stained on GZ, hence the perception. But chances are ...

Yes they are very good at moving prices up before a sale then dropping the price so its only a few cents cheaper than it was a few days ago but say its $10+ savings.

Also their RRP prices are just wrong, A few products i have seen had a RRP price of more than $200 more than what the real RRP was (LG watch R if i remember correctly).

I have only noticed things going up when their "special" pricing seems to override what the account price is. Hopeless system to allow that to happen when the account price is less.

They can have some good deals, but definitely buyer beware relating to price when purchasing from PBTech. Due diligence is definitely required when it comes to their pricing practices I have found. Then again even the big name retailers can be disingenuous with pricing.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

I've seen this myself, check prices Sunday, go in the next day, they are higher, and then boom sale in a day or two. Unfortunately they seem to be cunning not to drop the prices immediately after the sale, they let it hang for a week or two, which makes it hard(er) to go and make a complaint under the Fair Trading Act for claiming artificial 'original prices' (especially when it's all import based and prices can fluctuate for other reasons anyway).

Preferring Playtech over PB these days for at least having what seem to be more genuine sales.

If you buy from them a lot, set up an account. If you buy a bit they will give you the good prices on anything you buy just by giving your phone number to the checkout staff to look it up.

Pricespys system does track price changes for individual products by at least some retailers I have found. So that may prove useful.

But only the listed price on the site, which PB are usually far from the cheapest. There isnt anything that indexes the account prices on the various tiers which would be much more useful.
