Has anyone found or bought a laptop from PB Tech today that they think was pretty good value?

Yeah the 305 is a gorgeous machine and gets great reviews, depending on the build, there are so many. The one you listed and the one I have at the bottom here have pretty weak (but better than a tablet etc, ~3000 on passmark)

I was going to go the i7 model with a dedicared G940M GPU and much better i7-6500u, also has a touch 1080p screen, which to me is much better than a qhd on 13" screen (how good are your eyes).

its $1748 UX303UB

if I didnt go the i7 g940m model Id go the below as id prefer an IPS 1080p screen for $140~ less. BUT, each to their own, you cant lose out with this machine imo. maybe do some research on that CPU and see if it will cut it for you as well. also note the one you listed has a bigger SSD. just depends on whats important to an individual.

would be the model with a 1080p IPS (better viewing angles and colours but less pixels) screen and only 128GB SSD. for $1068ZenBook UX305FA

On the actualy PBtech sale, I have to say Im really disappointed, I was expecting something mind blowing. I was expecting more high end lappies at cheaper prices like ROGs etc.

Although I did consider

17.3" 1080p FullHD IPS w/G-SYNC Intel i7-6820HK, 32GB Ram 256GBx2 PCIE G3x4 SSD GTX980 8GB vRam, with a water cooled docking station LOL, no I wish.

ASUS ROG GX700VO

The Dell XPS 13 is a good buy at $1800 ish.  Is the higher spec model with quadHD touchscreen, normally $2700 on dell.com.

Dell XPS 13 they have on "sale" is last year's model isn't it?

Usual PBtech "sale". Nothing great. Prices raised then dropped.

This^. Might be the odd good buy but sadly they are getting a reputation for dodgy pricing tactics. Do your due diligence.

I agree that their prices often aren't that great. Although for a bricks and mortar store their pricing is usually better than other brick and mortar stores. But online you can often find better pricing.

IME the sale prices are no better than what you can get by asking. I dont really bother with looking at the sales, just deal with the same guy each time and ask what they can do it for.

My folks went in on Friday and picked up a basic Asus for the sale price although the sale wasnt starting until Saturday. Was some decent savings if you were looking at a high end unit.

I looked at the sale, was a big fizzer in my view.

Biggest sale 'ever' , i'd be looking for min 40% off high end laptops.

But, what I find in these sales is that the laptops with crappy internal chips , cheap cases, bad touchpads and keyboards, generally get good discounts.

Kind of like the michael hill 'up to 50%' off sale, where the $20 costume jewellery is half price but anything decent has 5% discount only.

totally agree with what you are saying surf.

dont advertise something as the biggest ever anything and sell at prices you can get at any store for cash. i didnt bother going in as i find its fairly typical of them.

that UX was a reasonable buy, but again thats the normal price online.

i was expecting more the mid range lappies, ie i5-g940m sorts to be selling at big discount, i assumed the sale was to make way for new stock.

the high end ROGs did have $900 off some machines, but again thats the price for some online stores.

PBtech sales are always meh, I usually get a good deal from them when they have a product that's already near the lowest on pricespy and ask a sales person for a discount.
