Is this worth it for a soon to be 12yr olds birthday present (first phone for him)?

Moto X

If you don't think so, do you have any other recommendations that are a similar spec and around the same price?

Saw that and was wondering the same thing. I don't know much about Android phones, and wwhat specs are good/bad. I see it only has a 720P screen, but surely that isn't too much of a limitation?

I'm thinking as long as the battery doesn't explode it's all good :D.

But seriously, with 2GB of ram and a half decent camera and processor it seems like an alright entry level phone. Just not so sure on the lack of sd card support

Looks like the 1st Gen 2013 model based on the specs.

Can anyone confirm the model number?

If its the Gen2 similar to mine (was 599 last year on special) then nothing wrong. (I have XT1092)

The camera isn't what it made out to be, does some funky auto contrast which can mess with things and low light is a bit poo. No removable battery or expansion slot for a card. And with big images and video it can fill up fast. Raw Droid, 6.1 was pushed to it last week. Prior it was getting updates before most makers (more or less a clone of the Motorolla Nexus, made to compete with the S5)

The downside beside an S5, is the soft buttons, you end up with a screen the same size as an S5 when you expect more once the button bar is on screen. Wide for full screen video

It's gen 1.

Gen 2 has 5.2 inch screen.

I have a 1st generation. Paid $275.08 2 years ago from Noel Lemming. Its not a bad phone Only problem is it's hard to see the screen in bright sunlight, but I guess thats a problem with all phones. I think it would be perfect
