+ GST + Customs duty (maybe) and no after sales support?  I would pay the extra 30 bucks and buy local. But that's just me.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

No GST unless it would attract duty and GST of $60 or more. Then there's the Customs Import Entry Transaction Fee of NZ$29.26 and MPI biosecurity system entry levy of $19.98 due if the IETF is charged. So that's $49.24 extra on top of any duty and GST.

I don't think we have much of a speaker manufacturing industry to protect so I doubt there's any duty and even if there was the GST and duty on the value including freight falls well below the $60 threshold so it won't be collected anyway.

As for "no after sales support" I've had consistently better support from overseas purchases than I've ever had from NZ ones without fighting tooth and nail. Claims of any value in local support is mostly less than worthless on small goods IMO.

+1.   In my experience Amazon have the best customer service of any company I've ever dealt with.

There is a speaker manufacturing industry in NZ.

There's Theophany, Image Audio, Perreaux come to mind.

They're not really making plastic bluetooth bits of consumer fodder though...

I just looked at PriceSpy and it's $118 incl GST at the likes of PB Tech / PlayTech... sooooo not much of a saving really.
